1. Maybe the CFI's and instructors and experienced pilots can start a new thread for National Safety Month and each week they give us students and low hours pilots first hand stories of things that happened to them during their flying careers, things like Maj Millard and Camel are talking about, maybe a story with what happened and then what they should have done to prevent it happening, this may help us all be safer by the end of the month...what do you say guys? David
2. Yes apparently, I don't see any of this news on there website? Probably to busy on Friday to put it up....I guess it would be to much to ask that our new safety officer go around Australia visiting RA-Aus flying schools and holding safety lectures for students...maybe to much to ask for.. David
3. Well maybe Scott, I am going to inspect an aircraft next week near Melbourne, this will be my 2nd trip down there in the last month to do a test flight and inspection...hopefully it will be worth it this time. David
4. Ok... National Safety Month...that is the big announcement...we all need to wear hi-vis vests...0kay dokey... https://www.facebook.com/RecAviation David
5. This wheel and tyre combo are for the guys land on any paddock or track and they have big ones...I bet not as BIG as these...

7. Can't miss it... :) David
8. Hi Sean, I think you have a great idea and it is good to see a young guy so keen, I have trained many apprentices over my career and I would be happy to help you out if I can, I agree that you get the owner of the aircraft to supply the cleaning gear, he would need to have it anyway and then work out between you and him when is the best afternoon after school to come and give it a clean, I would suggest that owner would stay with you to supervise you while you are doing your cleaning, in that way he can see what you are doing and if you have any questions he can answer them for you and everyone will be happy. Yes we do have a lot of litigation these days for making mistakes that cost money to repair things but if I would have had that attitude when I was training young guys we wouldn't have some really good builders now...give it a go Sean but find someone that will help you learn about what you want to do and to work around the aircraft safely....good luck mate. David
9. So over 2 days...anyone been to one? what actually happens over the 2 days...is it a hands on course or is it a just listen and watch type of thing? David
10. Yea come on Phil...you can do it...give us a pic... David
11. I was just talking about the exchange rate on the $ and the affect it will have on aircraft sales the other day, I was saying that the local aircraft manufactures are well placed if they have a good product to pick all the sales that would have gone overseas. We have manufacturers like Gary Morgan being pushed out of the LSA market at the wrong time, we need manufacturers like him, we need the authorities and the flying public to support him and we need to do our best to keep them running, I would like to support Australian made products but they must be comparable is quality with a reasonable price tag, some of the prices for overseas aircraft are getting out of control which runs through then to second hand market. I have found some second hand aircraft only around 10%-20% less than buying a new one and these are 10 years old, good for the owners I guess but what is going to happen in 5 years time, are we going to have an ageing fleet of aircraft being flown by low hours pilots...does that sound familiar? it does to me. I think in the near future the way the $ is going we may not have a choice to buy Aussie...unless you have very deep pockets. David
12. Ok thanks..that's a pity.. David
13. Does anyone know if Garry is able to build and sell the Sierra 200 as a factory build LSA aircraft now? I see that at one stage they took his accreditation to build these as a 24 registered away. David
14. Yes I bet you are hanging out Scott...it's like a kid waiting for Xmas to come....time goes past so sloooow... David
15. Nice video Xavier...loved hearing French and the music was ok...great country you have up there...did you catch any fish? David
16. I guess if we had flying cars it would cut down on road rage.. bit hard to step out of your car and clonk someone on the head with your concealed baseball bat... David
17. Yes I agree if you had a fire, no chute in that case just get to the ground as fast and as safely as you can.. David
18. That does not sound good.. David
19. It would be great to own one but I think you would, as usual, need to be a millionaire to own one...maybe if I will the lotto one day... David
20. I think in an emergency situation and you have a chute it would be easy to reach up and pull the handle but what we need to know in our minds is when...too pull it and when not too pull it... I think it is all about training...like knowing at what height is high enough and thinking I am not alone here I have my wife sitting beside me do I take the risk with her life as well and try gliding to that unknown paddock or just pull the handle... a lot to think about when you only have seconds to make a decision... So as I said, if you have a chute you NEED to know when it is the best time to deploy it and when not to so training is the key...knowledge is life I think.. David
21. Yes it is an interesting thought, with more aircraft having ballistic chutes maybe it is time to directly address it in our training regime, when and where to pull it and when not to...maybe just a 1 hr lesson with your CFI to give so me the types of landscape and occasions where you would and wouldn't just to get the thought process going if the need arises....just like you have your procedure in your head about what you would do for a engine failure on take off. David
22. I think they say here that they were Ikarus C42s .. http://www.rt.com/news/313146-switzerland-airshow-plane-crash/ David
23. Yes it was nice meeting you Tony, when is your next lesson? David
24. Had a great day today at YRED....it's been a while since I had been flying so it was great to get back into the air with Mahl my CFI...he just makes you feel comfortable and relaxed....thanks Mahl...other than that we had a great day weather wise and I was happy that the normal cross winds at YRED went on holidays so that helped me with my circuits...nice comfortable 1 hr lesson... happy with what I did flying wise but still much to learn...hopefully I can get up again next weekend... David
