  1. Try and ask at least 1 person a day RUOK. If we all do that it means that everybody has someone watching there back and they know there are people who care. Probably not the right thread for it but as someone who has lost close family and several friends to the Black Dog we should talk about it. We should talk about it loud and often. I believe that the media should as well. Pretending it does not happen helps no-one.
  2. Just remember it is a luxury item. No one needs your plane. They may want it but an arrogant seller will send a buyer elsewhere very quickly. My original comment about maybe he really is sick was made because a scammer would be highly unlikely to ask you to do what you were asked, they were questions a potential purchaser may have asked though. Unless of course the scammer is your local LAME. LOL
  3. If you purge as per the book it shouldn't start. As I read it the idea is to turn her over very slowly holding the compression to allow the oil to be forced back into the reservoir. If you do that you are not going to have enough revs. As for compression testing you are feeling for the compression so again slow turning. But as has been already said. Check switches and treat it as live anyway.
  4. Welcome. Listen to your instructors, study the literature and most of all remember it should be fun.

    Drifter Heaven

Was good to catch up again Brett. Nice photo of the Drifter with my girl in the background. I forgot to take any photos.
  6. So that was you passed me just after I left there then Graham. I saw a Tecnam on Oz Runways and then your car was parked up when I got home. Sorry I missed you but wanted to get home before the weather came in.
  7. Being one of those people who always tries to look for the best in people, maybe he really is crook and has had a relapse.
  8. Yep I recall he just flew to Alice to test fly one for someone over there. Good luck with it all.
  9. plenty still to do mate. Ground runs. Full power runs. Mine ended up with 2 hours on the ground before the first take off. Don't be scared to tie it down and run it. Best of luck I am watching with interest. Are you doing the test flight or do you have someone doing it for you.
  10. I have purchased several products from the clear prop shop. I have never had a problem. I do have a habit of asking if a product is in stock before I order, but I do that with all my online purchases. If you order something that is not in stock then you must expect delays that is why I ask first.
  11. Cool Cyclists in Queensland have it made. They have right of way over everyone now. If a cyclist rides into the side of my 65 tonne B/Double then technically I am in the wrong. It is a legal requirement now for me to give him 1 metre clearance, so if he hits me then I am in the wrong. So as the cyclist of the air can I demand to be given a wide berth by everyone else.
  12. Why can't you do that now. I do it every day. Well every day that I fly. Just a little bit of planning and open eyes, and there are several ways in from most directions. So you may have to fly a little bit further and go around some areas but it is quite safe and more than doable.
  13. I know that and you obviously know that but someone doesn't. And that is the type of thing that will stop any of us getting it.
  14. Whilst flying around Brisbane and surrounds I am quite often Brisbane Central radio Freq. I am amazed at the number of times that I hear RAA Aircraft call up and ask for clearance through CTA. Normally just transiting but there are occasions that I hear them heading to certain airfields. Mostly they have a flight plan lodged but sometimes ATC will come back and say remain outside class c while I enter a plan for you. I would say not a weekend goes by that I do not hear at least one or two. On one occasion I even heard a 19 rego ask for and receive clearance to transit through Gold Coast. I just assume that these people are all flying on and RPC but have either an RPL or PPL to support their requests. I am not sure about the 19 Rego but I did jot down the number, so that if I ever run into him somewhere I can check if his B*lls are as big as he thinks.
  15. If that is the case then you should reconsider the 4 cyl D-motor. It actually gives far more torque than the 912iS The 912iS to give 135 NM torque needs to be set for 92.5 hp it will get 100 hp but then torque drops to121 nm The D-motor set at 92 hp gives 220 nm of torque. You need to compare apples with apples. PS the rotax with all the fittings included is 75.5 kgs.
  16. You need to check your weights D-Motor 4 Cyl Dry Weight: 52 Kg (incl, exhaust, radiator and oil tank) Jabiru 4Cyl Dry Weight 63.8 kgs Complete Rotax 912is engine with propeller speed reduction unit 63.6 Exhaust system 4.8 Air guid hood 0.4 External alternator 3.0 Fuel pumps assay 1.6 Engine mount 2.0 Still needs Radiator, Oil Cooler etc
  17. Amazing. A Fat LSA. Should be a hit with fat pilots. Where can I get one.
  18. I have been thinking about your muffler Mark. The reason for changing if I have it correct was to get more power by getting closer to the Rotax recommended 5 litre capacity. So no instead of the smaller Savannah muffler you are taking a 5 litre Rotax one and making it larger. Be careful that you do not rob yourself of the extra power you are aiming to get. There is an optimum muffler capacity. You could easily end up with to much rather than to little for no actual gain. I would be revisiting trying to make the standard Rotax one fit.
  19. Getting ready to sit back and watch the speech.
  20. I feel your pain. I redirected to Moree in Jan when temps rose above those predicted and made flying uncomfortable. Even though I had checked availability of fuel at Moree just in case, the bowser card reader wasn't working. This was on New Years day with no ability to call anyone, I just had to walk into town and back out twice to get fuel. I rang a taxi but they were not allowed to carry pax with fuel in containers. So at 40 plus degrees I did it the hard way. It all added to the memory banks and to be honest after my first ever 5.5 hour day in the plane, I needed the exercise. It is about 4.5 klms each way from the airfield to the nearest bowser by my calculations.
