Kneeboards/ cockpit management tips?
mAgNeToDrOp replied to mAgNeToDrOp's topic in Student Pilot & Further Learning
Thanks I like the smaller kneeboard idea and using the pockets. I'd hate t lose my map in an open cockpit, awkward moment if you don't have a spare....... -
Can anyone recommend a kneeboard, or whatever they use during navex's. I am quite tall and flying the tecnam ( stick between the legs) I find my kneeboard ( asa tri fold strapped to right thigh) can interfere with the controls. I've just started my Nav training and I don't see this working for me. I've considered just the el cheapo folding a4 clipboard from officeworks but this will also interfere with the stick on my lap. Perhaps I can just use the a5 kneeboard without the folds or straps and make use of door pockets, dash etc for the extra bits I'm just interested to see what others use, esp taller pilots I.e 6'4". Cockpit management in the first few navs is a nightmare..

Nice, can't say I've ever been singing a happy song while sideslipping on final, and I even had a noise up front just in case.....

CASA Recreational Licence
mAgNeToDrOp replied to frank marriott's topic in AUS/NZ General Discussion
As a non-lawyer I'm still confused about what that means for raaus flyers. Sorry if its a stupid question. This means the Rpl is available from december and if you have raaus cert plus Nav plus plus etc, you can use it as credit towards the RPL? I assume you still need to go through the medical circus for Rpl. Raaus medical no good. .. -

218 kg useful load on the cessna, doesn't leave much unless you're one of the 75 kg average human beings....

Incidentally there is an article in the latest Flight Safety Australia magazine that may be worth a read. http://casa.grapevine.com.au/lists/lt.php?id=Y0UCAAIFCAMDUh9VBwcGTAgBAQACAQ%3D%3D (Download the PDF)

Flight Test coming soon - advice?
mAgNeToDrOp replied to ayavner's topic in Student Pilot & Further Learning
See it as a challenge, enjoy it! After the usual test stuff in the training area I had to find the airfield after a practiced forced landing staying at minimum 500 feet so I couldn't really see it from where we were, was alot of fun though ( and no there were no built up areas in between - just paddocks) I also managed to stuff up the landing as I was asked to land on 03 and I joined circuit for 21 ( was wondering why he wanted me to do a downwind landing). Raised eyebrows from instructor and I realised my mistake on "downwind 21 - wrong end doh! " and then did all the right things and rejoined for a (now flapless thrown in) successful landing on 03. He still passed me said it was probably nerves. I think they will throw alot of scenarios at you to see how much you can handle, I'm sure the instructor already knows whether or not you are up to standard before you even take the test. -
First Area Solo - Complete!

Nice work! -
The only real benefit you will get out of the simulator (e.g. FSX) is help getting your procedures burned to memory, e.g. circuit procedures, forced landings (emergency procedures). It even helps to practise your NAV procedures on the sim as you can dial in the wind etc and if you have ORBX scenery for example the landmarks are all there an you'll find you can fly the NAVs pretty spot on to your plan. There is no realism to actually flying but I find it's way more fun than practicing your NAV on your armchair when your learning. Throw in diversions etc and you get to practice recalculating your heading. Oh it also helps you learn to get used to the Ozrunways interface as you can hook it up to your flight Sim and play with all the features so you don't have to sit there and fiddle with it too much in when you're actually flying.

Is it possible to have wing tanks in a skyranger? Having fuel behind my seat makes me sweat a little..

1 knot = 1.2 mph approx. Which makes 110mph about 95 knots.
