  1. Great first podcast. Looking forward to future episodes.
  2. Was bummed out listening to you lot on the radio going suitable to Evans head and watching all the cool acft types going in. Next year I might take some leave.
  3. Imagine your average Joe though opens up his little rc heli goes out and of she goes into the stratosphere. He doesn't know that he lives on final into archerfield. He just complains about the noise from those pesky ultralights. Just saying it's not impossible to all go to shit
  4. Interesting story... My 8 year old brother was given an rc heli for christmas (just one of the little infrared ones). Did the silly thing and took it out into the sun. Anyway, either the sun messed with the infrared or something else went wrong; the thing started going up and just kept going. We couldn't reverse it or anything. It just kept going till I could no longer see it with naked eye. Imagine if that happened somewhere where acft were on final or something.
  5. Not saying it won't be (though my mob is licensed and flies at a field in an insured club so it won't be one of us). As with everything there are idiots (look at some RA pilots antics). Just the quads are so accessible now and able to be flown by anyone that I am worried there will be increased legislation for the rest of us.
  6. Haven't had leave in 2 years. Going away in march but that's os. Just don't get the time to do fun stuff like this
  7. Beautiful flying down there. I would recommend. Might have to organise one of these when I get some of these holidays that other people speak of.
  8. As an RC pilot who had to do a check, pays an annual membership to a club and follows strict rules; I think these UAV's or drones or whatever you want to call them are going to screw it up for the rest of us. Just saying.
  9. Isn't there a sentence in the CEO report from this issue (don't have it with me) that specifically says you cannot fly an RA Reg ACFT with anything but a pilot certificate?
  10. It would be really interesting to find out if his articles are peer reviewed. I would bet no. In which case why are they being printed. Any article like this that is factual from an organisation should be peer reviewed in the very least.
  11. I think you all have buckleys chance of having the airspace changed. The red tape surrounding such things, and the cost of implementing into maps, atc systems (eurocat map upgrades etc) are too high. Noone who is asking for CTA endorsements wants added costs and requirements on the guys who don't want to use it. We are asking only that we look into the issue. If it can be accessed for those who want it (regardless of what hoops they have to jump through) without affecting those who don't want it then what is the harm? We are asking only that the issue be looked into again. Oh and your VFR routes through CTA or Class E above aerodromes would be an absolute nightmare for ATC. Class E is horrible, I am with Rhys on this one. IFR pickup is the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen. Especially in the one time I've seen it. Cheers, Shags
  12. lol. I remember when I first started flying wondering why there were signs everywhere in the flying school (especially in the toilet) saying remember to cancel SAR!
  13. Either way is fine so long as someone is holding SAR. Benefit to giving it to Airservices to hold is that it is taken very seriously and will not be misplaced. I should know this but does it cost anything to lodge sartimes?
  14. Yeah I've seen guys here do the same ie. TEC1234 but I leave it as 24 1234 since technically that's the rego and the acft type I'd already in the flight plan
  15. Hi guys, Given that ATC only ever rarely deal with 24 or 19 reg most don't understand how it works. Also if you lodge your flight plan as 24-1234 and call up "flutterbug 1234" we need to look up the flight plan which we would have to guess either 24 or 19. Most ATC wouldn't even know to try it with those numbers in front. Given that most ATC don't even know how the rego works for these things be a bit kind when dealing with them. I am trying to raise awareness of these things when I see it on my sector but can't help you on the rest of the country. I am a bit amazed that nowhere in our training do we cover the 24 or 19 reg or even the existence of non vh reg acft. Tower guys probably get more exposure to enroute. And remember: AIP ENR 1.1-85 52.2.3 The preferred method to cancel a SARTIME is via telephone to CENSAR on 1800 814 931. When telephone facilities are not available you may use ATS frequencies. Although of course if you need to change enroute then we will be happy to help where we can. Cheers, Shags
  16. Waiting for a more complete version before buying it. Looking forward to being able to use it. Thanks Bevan
  17. The internal storage is not the ram. Interval storage is where apps can write to so that other apps can't access the file (or the user for that matter). Then there is external storage (the inbuilt sd) where the files are accessible by the user and all apps. Then there is the external sd card if the phone supports it. Acts like the external storage. Developers can choose where there apps cab install to it write files to.
  18. I don't have avplan and not sure if it natively supports SD card but on android to install apps to sd card: Go into settings Go to Apps Select the app (avplan) If it can be isntalled to SD card, then there will be an option in there to install to SD card. Hope this helps. I love Android and will never buy an Apple Product. Avplan will be my next purchase (through the ClearProp store of course ;) )
  19. I like dealing with the CFS guys. They are good fun. I am the worst at some of these place names. There is a place up near Kowanyama (or however it's spelt) that I can't pronounce. Glad I don't operate that sector anymore... On a side note. Had a Qlink the other day request ND for Westcamp. Seems as though noone knows what to call brisbane west/wellcamp.
  20. We don't mind you doing these calls as they are required. The atc let's you know it's on area as we regularly get aircraft forget to change to ctaf and they thank us. Don't read anything into this. You may get an atc get angry but you are right to do this. It does get annoying when a call breaks through and you're trying to coord something but we will survive.
  21. Hi mate. I have tried all three schools mentioned in these posts... Gofly, Caboolture recreational Aviation, Pathfinder. Caboolture Recreational... Not a big fan of the school or their methods, but that is a personal opinion. Some people find their methods great, just didn't work for me, not to mention I hate flying Jabs. Pathfinder... Great school with great instructors. I hate flying Jabs but they now have some of the Cessna LSA's I believe. They are slightly more expensive than the other two schools but have a PPL conversion course and you get experience in class D. GOFLY is my definite recommendation. Doesn't matter if you have only flown Jabs, Once you fly the Tecnam you will realise how messed up the Jabs really are. The instructors there are also top notch and their prices are fantastic. I can't recommend these guys enough.
  22. Hi All reminder that the G20 restrcited areas and ADIZ start to become active. Make sure you follow all restrictions and requirements, lets not have an RA aircraft intercepted and escorted. Check your notams before departing. http://www.airservicesaustralia.com/aip/current/sup/s14-h62.pdf Cheers, Shags
