ASI in MPH. Australia. Would you?

Your plane will be faster -
I built a 1/4 scale R/C Jungmeister from plans. It spun to the ground on about the fourth flight, moved onto ultralights after that heart break.

Suitable firewall
Thruster88 replied to Peasant_Pilot's topic in Aircraft Building and Design Discussion
I see you having a dig at expensive certified aircraft parts however if you search the ATSB data base for in flight engine fires you will see that they are very rare in Australia compared to RAAus types by a huge margin. AN fittings, steel braid oil and fuel lines, fire sleeves, proper fuel drain lines on components that could leak if a fault develops, robust correctly designed electrical systems all cost money. I think it is cheap. Carburetor over flow lines should be routed out of the cowl at least. -
This performance charts shows how increasing altitude affects, propeller rpm required for a given % of power, range at a given power setting, true airspeed, fuel flow required for a given power setting. This aircraft runs about half the rpm of the geared 912 but the % changes would be very similar because they fly in the same air. Fixed pitch prop. There is a slight gain in efficiency and maximum range with altitude. Speed has the greatest effect.

There are 16005 VH registrations today out of 17576 combinations. You can only reserve a mark for one year so we must be getting about 1488 new aircraft in the next year, cool. Unprecedented but cool.

They could just reuse the one's that will never fly again. Maybe offer a bounty for owners who relinquish. $1000 should be enough 😂 As for aircraft migrating from VH to RAAus I don't think that will be many. Reforms for private VH pilot medicals could be coming. It will be hard to justify the double standard otherwise.

Tyre and wheel sizes?
Thruster88 replied to Marty_d's topic in Aircraft Building and Design Discussion
The maximum speeds are for a fully loaded tyre in continuous operation. A landing aircraft would be a fraction of that. Don't recall any tyre failure in the xxxxxx database. -

Rolls Royce creates fastest all electric aircraft
Thruster88 replied to red750's topic in UK/Europe General Discussion
This airframe with a standard 350hp lycoming is only slightly slower, the tuned up version is considerably quicker than the RR electric. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sharp_Nemesis_NXT -
C/S prop installation on Jabiru 2200 &fuel injection
Thruster88 replied to lyle janke's topic in Engines and Props
I see that Trent Palmer has removed the constant speed propeller from his freedom fox bush plane and gone back to a simple ground adjustable. The downside must have been greater that the benefit in his case. -
The engine, which had given plenty of WARNING that it was not in good health failed at 3000 feet over flat farm land with a wind from the north east at 10knots. The late decision to turn down wind while not maintaining adequate airspeed sealed their fate. Even without the wing drop (stall) they would have had a 20 knot higher touch down speed than a landing to the north east. The aircraft crashed in this area. http://www.kathrynsreport.com/2019/06/beechcraft-a36-bonanza-n8014t-fatal.html

It is a complete mystery how PPL's manage without a passenger endorsement with multiple passengers.
