  1. I have one question, what are the thermodynamic qualifications of the previous builder. I feel that feeding hot air from the engine cylinders, oil cooler and exhaust system through the exit radiator has little chance of success. Van's aircraft could have done the cooling on the 12 any way they liked, their system is just like everyone else's. Our club 912 aircraft is only just on a hot day with front mounted radiator and oil cooler.
  2. Is this to make the hydraulic lifters work correctly?
  3. A good old film for lovers of thruster aircraft. If the link doesn't work just google "on a wing and a prayer thruster aircraft"
  4. Great story, flightrite. On an aeronautical theme do you think there is any similarity between bride turning to bitch and a benign or even a difficult aircraft suddenly stalling and spinning to the ground with an "experienced" pilot at the controls.πŸ€”
  5. Should be 0.045 inch or 1.1 mm. Will get some 40 stainless lock wire when next at work.
  6. The RAAus 2 stroke endorsement is a bit silly IMHO. Rotax 912 carb, 912is and jabiru are different enough to operate correctly that they (RAAus) could have an endorsement for each engine type. In the real world pilots read the POH or seek information if they are operating an engine with which they are not familiar. RAAus have dropped the low performance and high performance endorsements and they should do the same with 2 stroke. In VH land it is up to the pilot to know the differences between carburetor and fuel injected engines from different manufacturers.
  7. We had an LJ50 as well, unstoppable in mud with the standard skinny tyres. Just one of the reasons I love 2 strokes
  8. With an E-Tec 2 stroke, raw fuel never goes out the exhaust because they are direct injection into the cylinder after all ports are closed. It is a shame the non turbo 850 E-Tec, at 141hp is not offered for aircraft use with the C gearbox. Would love to get one for a super stol thruster.
  9. Made up a bettsometer using a $9.75 ebay electronic scale and some 0.9mm mig wire for the hook. Pull for dacron appears to be 3lb or 1360g on the fabric and stitching. Tested my recent purchase which passed easily, whent double no problem.
  10. The RV series and many others have castoring nose wheels so you dont get any nose wheel authority in such aircraft, that is what the rudder is for as Kevin has said. There has been at least 6 fairly serious accidents involving the runway for RAAus aircraft in December 2021, not sure how we fix this. Got to be bad for insurance premiums.
  11. Ok, you could go the cut and open or shut as per Mike's video. As he says practical is often better than CAD.
  12. Has to be a messed up tail wind go around or a throttle malfunction on the taxi way.
  13. These guys are all pilots already, some will just need tail wheel or RAAus "endorsement " I would probably advise anyone wanting to fly a thruster learn in a tricycle aircraft and then get the tail wheel endorsement. There will always be instructors doing tail wheel endorsements. Every one should get a tail wheel endorsement, it will make you a better pilot.
  14. As PM said, lots of good advice and who doesn't like looking at a lycoming 780.😍 Skippy is there no factory cowl for the sonex?
  15. Not sure about it not lasting, a 21 year old and three others in their 30's have bought Thrusters in this area recently.
  16. Not a sonex or 912, my RV6a has only 3mm between the spinner and cowl. It has not touched. Googled some sonex cowl images and it would seem that there is plenty of room. The advantage of a small dry sump engine.
  17. The company that is developing the Higgs engine also make liquid cooled cylinders for lycoming engines. Add the EFI and electronic ignition and you would have everything people want😁. At least the base engine is well proven. Would it really be any better, I am not convinced.
  18. I have used this Samsung tab s3 since 2017, it never over heats, has good battery life and has all the functionality I need for ozrunways. I like simple.
  19. This is a conventional 2 stroke with a turbocharger. It is in production. Rotax 2 strokes rock. https://www.rotax.com/en/products/rotax-powertrains/details/rotax-850-e-tec-turbo.html
  20. Our CFI Rob can do low level endorsements. https://www.aeroclubcowra.com/
  21. Turbo, that information as you know is in the POH, pilot operating handbook or AFM, aircraft flight manual. It is not the job of RAAus to provide this information. RFguy has studied many such POH or AFM's including the the Beech23 which he describes as a well sorted aircraft.😁
  22. Yes the SkyEcho2 is perfect for powered parachutes, gliders, hot air balloons and any simple flying machine. Turn it on and put it in your pocket. The cessna caravan almost certainly would have had a traffic alerting system. The cessna 208 is a 3 miles a minute aircraft, so the pilot would have had less than 60 seconds to see the traffic.
  23. This from the early 90's. We flew 4 thrusters up to Lightning Ridge for a little airshow, some Drifters came down from Qld. As I get older I am thankful that I flew from a young age and did lots of low flying in those years. I am the skinny guy in blue.
