  1. Avoiding AVDATA billing????? Have seen plenty of that!
  2. Avgas, motel and course - over $1000.00 for me. Even if not recognised by RAA the course was very educational.
  3. Point 4 from ERSA All non VH registered aircraft need PPR.
  4. The problem Keith is the inflexible approach/attitude of the ex Tech Manager now “consultant” after resigning. I have qualified 3 (yes THREE) times, maintained my aircraft for 10 years, and completed the manufacturers maintenance course (with yourself) not recognised by the current administration - it is plain stupidity to have to repeat this process every time some some wanker comes up with a new idea. One could easily believe it was for some browny points with CASA and after that didn’t work out maybe some sense might now apply. I actually doubt it as I took up this subject with Banfield at a board meeting and received an aggorant reply which I suspect will continue under the “consultant” title.
  5. Just another secret? Does anybody outside the “secret society” actually know what is going on? I just shake my head in disbelief.
  6. The very reason why this disastrous move needs to be reversed and returned to its members (remember the claims of no change to members - and too many were conned by a couple).
  7. It was from the office manager in writing (after enquiring) that he had resigned and members would be advised. When??? Current rumours have Darren back on the RAA payroll?????! It would be nice, reasonably expected even, for members to be informed!
  8. August email released from Linke and STILL no information re the Tech Manager position. This is beyond belief, what is it they are trying to conceal - pretend nothing happened maybe??
  9. I have no idea on that, but I can say that of the RAA Pilots I know in my area quite a few are also CASA qualified (at various levels from RPL to ATPL). If I was pushed to guess I would say in the vicinity of 30% but that is just off the top of my head.
  10. I think you missed the point. I was not referring to RAA pilots, why would they anyway. If you are not aware of this rife behaviour you need to get away from the coast for a while.
  11. So does anybody know what has or is going to happen. So far (secondhand information only) 1. The Tech Manager resigns 2. The assistant acting as Tech Manager (only ascertained by direct question to RAA - stating members will be informed - WHEN does come to mind - maybe next year?) 3. The ex-Tech Manager gets another job and resigns from that, no interest in his other career moves. Surely not reappointed as if nothing happened???? STILL NOTHING from RAA. What is the secret? Is this what constitutes open and accountable management? Serious failing here. Is the most important issue to management registering and then deregistering a slogan? Whatever reason they are avoiding openness for, certainly feeds rumours, conspiracy theories , and downright mistrust.
  12. Had an occasion flying into Watts Bridge to experience the on air behaviour of this individual. Suffice to say I (and a following CPL/instructor) have a different opinion of the professionism/airmanship of this individual. But I accept everyone is entitled to their opinion. I didn’t respond on the radio but waited in the vicinity of the aircraft a couple of times during the day hoping to meet him to discuss the legal requirements in relation to circuit entry. Unfortunately or perhaps fortunately we did not meet - but you take people as you find them (or not as the case may be).
  13. I wonder how well people are informed about either No Or False callsigns being used now by aircraft, (and at times no radio calls at all) I think worrying about a couple of RAA aircraft is probably misguided. AVDATA has it limitations.
  14. The Townsville and Rockhampton councils planned to give $18.5 million each to build an airstrip in another shire to support a mine. Zero use to ratepayers with restricted use as the trend is with mine controlled airports these days. Currently on hold. But we continue to vote these waste of space drongos in.
  15. Only thing I know for shore is that it being kept secret from members whatever is happening! The new “improved” management. BS.
  16. So the Tech Manager has left (started with casa this week) The rumours were correct. I got a reply after asking who the current Tech Manager was - now Jayden acting Tech Manager. Still NOTHING from RAA to members - an announcement will be made in the future! A key position in our (or once was our orginsation) vacated but not deemed necessary to inform members. I have no doubt the supporters of this secret society will still justify the outcomes but to me it is tolally unacceptable and an insult. Rumours are rife but again only rumours so we will see what eventuates. I hope the supporters of this ficasco are still happy with their decision.
  17. Frank, The major charge resulting in the jail time in this case was “Dangerous Operation of a Vehicle” under the Qld Criminal Code.
  18. From my point of view I am only interested in the flying content. Religious/political/greenie etc. matters are all subjects that everyone has their own views on (many strongly held) and there is plenty of places to debate that if one is so inclined, even WUA I guess but I never go there as I have my own opinion and not interested in hearing others. If Rec Flying is to be about “flying” and associated matters like CASA & RAA then there is not space for the other social distractions - after all there is enough disagreement and debate about flying/aircraft/administration and the like without including unrelated subjects. Just my view and I accept there will be plenty who disagree with me on that also, but so be it.
  19. Commonsense, practical knowledge of the industry, knowledge of what is happening throughout Australia doesn’t come with a business/law degree etc. A Canberra centric approach will never be suitable for RAA. Political style announcements are sickening, to me at least, which is why I have stopped reading most of the dribble.
  20. Short answer from my experience, they don’t like operating in low RPM range. 2900 - 3000rpm seems to be ideal. In a couple I have flown with full EMS instruments you get differences in temps below about 2900rpm. Use 2900 and plan 25ltrs/hr seems about right (3300 motor) - I have limited exposure to the 2200 motor.
  21. For light aircraft, approved owner maintenance is the way to go. The current RAA approach of limiting owner maintenance is poor form (even stating in one case “to ensure employment for LAMEs????) Rumour has it that a main instigator of this approach has left, but I stress it is only rumour at this stage and may turn out to be only wishful thinking.
  22. Last time I went there (before it became an aboriginal rip off - so some years ago - still known as Ayres Rock) we landed on the airstrip next to the rock, collected by the local motel and had a great time. Twice actually, a couple of years apart - once as a CHTR and once with 3 private aircraft. Since the BS started I have not returned and don’t intend to. The whole “aboriginal business” thing is just political which I refuse to be part of, sad really, but just my attitude to the matter. A great “natural” resource bastardised by politics - by BOTH sides.
  23. An interesting result ref “current” V “total time” was the results achieved by students over PPLs in the forced & spot landing competitions. I must admit I haven’t seen or heard of this type of activity for many years.
