Aircraft certified motor vehicle engines. Is there a niche for them
Downunder replied to Geoff_H's topic in Engines and Props
I'm a fan of the Diamond Aircraft engines, Austro Engines. (Diesel ICE, not the Wankel's) I believe they were developed from a Mercedes engine. At one point they had a 3 cyl 120 hp engine.....which (on jeta1 fuel) would have been nice. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Austro_Engine_E4 https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Austro_Engine https://www.austroengine.at/ I wish they would release these into the experimental market..... -
Probably no help, but I reinsured last December. They are normally very good with their communications but I had to prompt them several times, which I thought was strange.

Radio frequencies around Kununurra.....
Downunder replied to Downunder's topic in AUS/NZ General Discussion
Did it yesterday Doug. Tell us about your last flight I did both (looked at special procedures and spoke to a local pilot), however there are very few flying tourists at the moment and had it all to myself... -

Reviving a long dead thread.....beware! The ozrunways co-ords are decimal it seems, written as 123° 45.6' (as a way point) Should the minute figure be shown ( ' ) or is it actually not a decimal coordinate? A bit confused. It seems to be neither pure DMS or DD.....a hybrid?

I did call into Wyndam airport for a break..... In some ways I wanted to see a croc, and in some ways I did NOT want to see one...... In the end I didn't see one....

Isn't there some sort of law against multiple claims for the same accident from different insurance companies ?

RAA BFR - does a GA rating qualify
Downunder replied to horsefeathers's topic in AUS/NZ General Discussion
For a renewal, she needs to be financial and show the RAA her GA bfr....that's it. For a RAA conversion she needs to do time with an Raa instructor. -
Having been on the receiving end of a "downturn" myself, alot of companies simply use it for an excuse to restructure and make layoffs......under the guise of "current economic conditions"..... That is how the game is played.....

Ammeter fitted for Rotax 912
Downunder replied to Blueadventures's topic in Instruments, Radios and Electronics
My Odyessey (AGM) is 12.85 v fully charged and ideally requires 14.7v charging. There is a special setting on some battery chargers for this. I think alot of problems people have with AGM's are from using "normal" lead acid chargers...... which reduces the life of AGM's. Mine is over 5 yrs old and in perfect health. Load tested etc.... The aircraft system can't charge to 14.7 so it requires regular charging with a dedicated charger. I do this most flights when home hangar based. -
The customer base is larger but so is the competition for a piece of the pie....... Unfortunately (and it is unfortunate!) no other light aircraft mfg comes anywhere near close to threatening Rotax's stranglehold on the market. When Rotax want to make more money, they just crank the prices up and no-one even blinks....

At twilight, flashing landing lights are definately very bright!
