  2. I normally fly on ozrunways "open street map", flipping to WAC and Topo occasionally. The "ERC Low" as pictured gives a very good overview of the frequency and boundary. PCA, the QNH boundaries.....
  3. I'll need to be on my toes around here......quite a mix and match!
  4. Some info from this trip..... http://theblacksheep-theuglyduckling.blogspot.com/p/north-south.html
  5. Thanks Nev. I guess normally aspirated, 75% (sea level) power requires more throttle the higher you go. Which poses the question. Is a quoted 75% Figure based on a fixed sea level point or or a variable point based on altitude? (For prop setting purposes) And turbo normalised, manifold pressure remains the same (sea level) as you climb?
  6. After reading this, which has excellent explanations...... https://www.propellor.com/Performance#takeoff There is mention of 75% and 65% throttle.....(cruise and eco-cruise) I'm guessing manifold pressure would play an important part in determining these figures?
  7. I think you're a bit wrong on that nomadpete. I think battery voltage is a very good indicator. Pinched from car battery world below. A fully charged car battery has 12.6 volts. There is a very big difference when a car battery drops even a small amount of voltage. ... At 12.4 volts, a car battery is 75% charged while at 12.2 volts its 50% charged. Consider your car battery charged at 12.4 volts or higher and discharged at 12.39 volts or less
  8. I know the Rotax spec is a minimum of 5200 rpm at WOT, so that would give something of a limit as to how "coarse" you can go....
  9. I don't know of any other commercial system tha the one in post 46, unless he made his own.
  10. I have a voltmeter. I can see drops in voltage for landing lights and strobes. I don't really get any drop for charging my tablet. Perhaps measuring volts is too "coarse" for this.
  11. I've just done 25 hrs in a week. Alot of it over 8500. Yes, it runs perfectly fine, but it's not running at it's most efficient. You are probably throwing away a couple of litres an hour at least, at that altitude. To know what it really should be using, the best comparison would be how much fuel an injected engine was using at that altitude. I also think it's doesn't like burning avgas at those altitudes and egt's. It's a bit cold for a clean burn.
  12. I couldn't find it on the jaycar site but it's the same as this. http://vi.raptor.ebaydesc.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItemDescV4&item=153001169559&category=42613&pm=1&ds=0&t=1588135317000&ver=0 Easy 6.3 mm male spade connectors. It has 3 connectors. Centre is + input. Bottom is power to bottom connector when switch is "down". Top is power to top connector when switch is "up". Centre switch position is "off". NOTE* This only the switch. It has nothing to do with the flashing. If you need to know how to wire the flasher unit to it, please ask.?
  13. I just swapped out my 2 position toggle switch (on/off) to a 3 position toggle switch (on/off/flash). Fitted in the same hole.....
  14. Random gorges..... Would have liked to get lower for pics but it's difficult. Up high it's stable and smooth to fly hands off, and there's plenty of time. Down low it's rough with winds coming off scarps, thermals, etc and the scenery rushes by so you need to time the shot perfectly......easier with pilot and passenger taking shots but a bit unsafe one up...
  15. Mt Barnett Roadhouse and strip. 20/06/20
  16. I've never seen fuel usage that high either, nor quoted figures from anyone I know. Rotax need to quote maximum outright "possible" use ...... perhaps for liability reasons... Currently sitting on 5150 at 16 lph....."real time" figures...lol.
  17. It varies so much. Atmospheric pressure, altitude, throttle, load, rpm......too many variables. Technically, you do have a "leak" via the throttle butterfly........
  18. And you're looking but can't see it? It's not a case of everything being right, but when things are wrong..... Are they really where they say they are?
