  1. Make a NAIPS account, then you can check restricted areas. https://www.airservicesaustralia.com/naips/Account/Register Or get an EFB like ozrunways at it will show on the map. Best thing...... do both....
  2. If it is hydraulic, this is what you need. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Phillips-66-Aviation-Hydraulic-oil-Cessna-Piper-Aircraft-Engine-RV-Lycoming-/232810261222 Needs to be milspec 5606.....
  3. Not sure about Aus, but warpdrive make them. https://warpdriveinc.com/product-category/accessories/ This mob as well. .. http://www.sabermfg.com/extensions.htm
  4. Some councils also don't know what community means. ...
  5. Doing a bit of research, it seems the brake mfg makes brakes for both hydraulic and "dot 4" fluids. Best contact aircraft mfg..... As everyone has said.....don't get it wrong!
  6. I'll add that avgas can be used at ANY mixed ratio with ulp.... just top up whatever you need. Change the oil at the end of the trip if going back to 100% ulp. I would take the lid off the oil can and remove the strainer and baffles to wipe out the bottom of the can. I've always found some grey lead (?) residue in the bottom after running avgas....... the more removed, the better....
  7. Imagine the council having someone at a public park, noting the car rego of attendees, then sending a bill in the mail (disclosed by the state motor vehicle authority ) for using the park to play cricket with your kids......(5 seaters and up pay more) oh, the uproar....but of course they SHOULD charge shouldn't they? I DOES cost money to maintain the grass, reticulation, public toilets, garbage collection and parking infrustructure...... We would all want to do the "right thing" and pay.....wouldn't we? Imagine the council having someone at a boat ramp..... Imagine the council having someone at a beach.....
  8. I think there was a member here trying to convert his RV 9 over to VH exp...... From memory, it was possible....
  9. One area that may bite Boeing more than the others is future orders for the 737, as the 737 sales makes a large portion of Boeings profit. Already orders are being cancelled, http://fortune.com/2019/03/22/boeing-737-max-order-cancel/ I think a fine, although only symbolic, would be appropriate and perhaps some jail time for someone over the current situation. It would at least send a message about future management decisions.... If they get away scott free from the current situation nothing will change I'm sure....
  10. Does modern HF actually need a trailing wire? Surely antenna technology has surpassed that....
  11. I don't hear GA pilots whinge about paying compulsory "membership" fees and aircraft rego though......
  12. So if you're doing 50 hrs per year, The RAA's cut is $8 per hour.....
  13. Quote: Before the Lion Air crash, Boeing and regulators agreed that pilots didn’t need to be alerted to the new system, and training was minimal. A number of statements in that article I struggle to get my head around. The swiss cheese effect and no one picked out any one of the faults .....
  14. And so is the complete dissappearance of an airliner, but it still happened......
  15. How stupid. Someone can fit ANY old POS conversion engine and fly but a "proper" aircraft engine with a known history of reliability after hours and time limits is now banned? I wonder if ex casa employees are now in jobs over the ditch..... Wouldn't surprise me if it was a push by Rotax either......commercial interests
  16. Thimk I paid the PO $45 ......but not really sure.....
  17. I went straight to an operator. The fee was less without the avdata surcharge but they could not accept the money as it would be "breach of contract" with avdata. They have that base covered....
  18. Would be interesting to see exactly what was in the 56 minute ipad conversion training. That was the ONLY training given on the max 8 for existing 737 pilots.
  19. There are also some reports indicating mcas was a normal operating function and others saying it was an emergency function. Does it operate on every take off?
  20. Securityid.com.au I've done a few re-newals through them. Fast efficient. All online... The system now requires you to take original docs to post office manager for confirmation AFTER going through the security id sysyem. You go through the security id system. They send you a page to print out. Take that and docs to PO. Bobs your uncle.
  21. A new plane worth over 100 million and there's a fault with the AoA after 3 months..... so much for the certification process...and the prices these things cost. I'm unsure if it was a new design but it reminds me of the Rotax fuel pump saga. After 20 years of stellar service Rotax replaced the pierburg (sealed unit) fuel pump with a different type.(screws on cover) Instantly there were issues with over pressurisation of the carby floats and high pressure alarms going off. A local aircraft had to have it's 300 hr pump replaced recently as it started leaking oil out the drain. I have no idea why a mfg would legitamately replace a pump that had proven itself over DECADES. I can only think marketing had more "pull" than engineering and saw a super reliable part as a "bad" part because it didn't prematurely fail and make them money in spare parts. Totally the opposite as to how and aircraft engine mfg should behave..... in the end, just greed.
  22. Don't forget Adsb is not satelite based and requires ground stations. When low and remote, the chances are you will NOT be picked up.
  23. It's not the fact it has control cables, it's who or what controls them....
  24. Transition training to the Max 8 for existing 737 pilots.....56 minutes on an ipad....... I thought modern aircraft systems, faults and alarms were monitored via satelite in real time to the aircraft mfg and operator?
  25. The 406 mhz plb/epirb is the standard govt authorised rescue beacon with signals going direct to Australian rescue services. The SPOT is a privately run thing. Controlled out of the USA I think. They alert the Australian authorities when required. I can understand AMSA's position, with a lack of oversight and control of the SPOT system. Having said that, I think it is a great device for all the reasons listed above.
