Jack Ferguson
Hi Everybody, Im after a kit aircraft to build with my father as a project, Preferably a 2 seat, can get off the ground quickly and with a alright cruise speed. Something like a Rans S6. Does anyone have a kit or something they have started similar to the characteristics I've mentioned. Cheers Jack

Marty_d
Looks like Wedgetail have taken over Morgan, plus they produce the old Sadler Vampire! Wonder what they power that with?

FlyingVizsla
We built a RANS S7. It goes together like a big Meccano set, good instructions, parts packaged & labelled. The challenges are fabric covering and painting. Seating is one behind the other. Can be configured to fly by either person (we are both pilots). Will be more expensive as the US & AUD $ drift apart. It took 6 years to build, but that was because he was working away, his first wife had cancer and months of travel for treatment, she died, he started chasing women and it took him 18 months to snare me and add my aircraft to his fleet. With just the two of us, both working, it might have been 2 years. Both of us have building experience and have owned other aircraft and he had a large shed a couple of blocks from the airport. We put it on the back of the truck (wings folded) to get it to the strip. That's another thing to consider - moving from build site to airstrip, if it isn't easily dismantled. Let us know how you go. danny_galaga
If you’ve a chance have a fly of a Bushcat. I tried one on the weekend and I’ve come away very impressed. Available as a kit, roomy cockpit and a pretty impressive 90kt cruise speed. Dunno what your budget is though. Usual power plant for the Bushcat is the Rotax 912 so that makes it a bit spendy compared to something two stroke powered SkyReach Aircraft | Home of the BushCat LSA . FLETCH
Check out the Nando Groppo Trail. All metal STOL Tandem tail dragger with probably the best one person wing folding setup ever made. Only one I know of in Australia has just been finished at Casino NSW.

Love to fly
Hmm I'm biased but perhaps look for an RV, the one we went in is an RV-9A, the quickbuild RV-12's seem to go together fairly fast and can be RAAus registered.
KRviator
You won't go wrong with a -9A unless you have your heart set on doing aeros at some point. I'm putting a new panel in my -9A and will put it on the market in a few months as I need a 4-seater. I should've listened to the KRviatrix and built a -10..... flea nut 2
anyone looked at the Belite Chipper, well worth your time
bexrbetter
. Only one I know of in Australia has just been finished at Casino NSW. I think that's an issue, lack of other builders and backup, and is one of the reasons I often nominate a Morgan, lots of backup and builders in Australia. Downunder
I looked at "Morgan's" when Gary had them. The term "kit" seemed overly generous I thought.... I don't think you can go wrong with a Savannah...... Got to be the most popular in Aus..... When building, flight performance is not the only consideration... bexrbetter
I looked at "Morgan's" when Gary had them. The term "kit" seemed overly generous I thought.... I would agree with your sentiments, I was quite angry about some aspects of the Sierra kit I bought, I hope Ray has cleaned up those aspects, however, it doesn't change that they are one of the easiest and fastest out there to build, and with local knowlege and support. The OP has stated the Belite is too expensive, so maybe the Morgan, and certainly any Vans series are out of the picture anyway.

Single seater though. https://flywithspa.com I've been keeping my eye on these and waiting for the 2 seater "cougar" but nothing seems to have happened since 2013....Great thing about the Panther is 191 Kt VNE (top speed 174 kts) . Potentially a very fast single seat Kit. Will take Lycoming type engines also.... Litespeed
If the belite is too pricey, then almost anything will be out of reach.
Marty_d
If the belite is too pricey, then almost anything will be out of reach. I just had a look at the Chipper site. In the purchase page, they say Rotax 912 ULS - $11,900. Ok so the AUD is about 77 cents US, so that makes it $15,400ish. Where the hell does the other $10,000-odd come into it??
