Who's going to be at NATFLY?

Tomo

Recommended Posts

Erky Perky. Let's hope the computer model has got it wrong.

Saturday 22:00 EST

A trough will generate widespread showers and storms across QLD, inland NSW and the Top End. A few showers will reach the Flinders Ranges in SA and northern VIC in warm humid northeasterlies. Warm northeasterly winds for WA as a trough brings a chance of showers to the southwest.

Issued Wednesday 11:24 EST

Hi Captain,

I looked at this scene last night and decided to can my trip Loxton-Narromine-Caloundra due to the likelyhood of the weather not clearing up enough for me to continue on to Caloundra after the Narromine. If any one would like B and B from Tomorrow till Sunday my cancellation is available. phone me 0418806466

Have a great time.

Phil.

I'm 95% canning my trip too. If I went at all I would ditch my other half for a bumpy weather passenger, go Friday and come back Saturday.

The forecast just changed for Dubbo only 5 minutes ago, supplied below. Whilst it's not that bad the word 'rain' is a bit of a worry rather than just showers and based on your pic above it's quite widespread so not sure if I fancy flying for an hour in rain as fun as that would be trying to plug all the holes. From what I'm let to believe there could be up to an inch of rain in it.

My alterate plans include a trip to Adelaide international by Jab. It's only $32 to land there and it's 5 mintues from the beach and numerous caravan parks. No point wasting the long weekend!

Forecast for Friday

Fine and mostly sunny. Light to moderate north to northeast winds.

Dubbo : Fine, mostly sunny. Min: 13 Max: 28

Forecast for Saturday

Isolated showers. Rain areas developing in the north. East to northeast winds.

Dubbo : Shower or two. Min: 13 Max: 29

Forecast for Sunday

Isolated showers or rain areas. East to northeast winds.

Dubbo : Shower or two. Min: 17 Max: 26

troughs tend to usually generate thunderstorm into the afternoon, and less rain with a more powerful high, which this is..

also the charts on the BOM site arnt showing a trough, and predicting rain on sunday onwards. clear friday and sat.

UL's.

They do now, at least for the next 2 days .... but Thur & Fri might be OK.

I'm gunna try for it, anyway.

However the weather channel is getting much more excited about a "rain event" for the cockies, than is reflected in these BOM charts.

cloud height?

Hmmn, consensus seems to be arrive Thursday Friday with an early departure on Saturday for the Northern dwellers and later for the Mexicans.

Rain is one thing that may possibly be waited on or dodged, showers another but low cloud ! thats definitely a real problem thing.I get nervous flying for long hours at below 1000AGL in poor VIS & shower activity.

LETS HOPE THE CLOUD BASE IS HIGH, RAIN IN-FREQUENT AND SHOWERS SCATTERED.

Well, I can't go this year 051_crying.gif.fe5d15edcc60afab3cc76b2638e7acf3.gif (family commitments) - looks like a repeat performance of last year (weather wise). BigPete and LittlePete  (grandson) zipped over to Swan Hill yesterday (Wednesday) and had visit with Cliff Banks (Sun Centre Ultralights) and wished him a safe jouney to Narromine.

Safe flying to all those attempting the flight 011_clap.gif.c796ec930025ef6b94efb6b089d30b16.gif - just remember to have a bug out plan and if it all gets to hard, then use it and try again next year - you'll have to be alive to try again. Don't make Easter a sad time for the family you leave behind. :black_eye: "Nuff said.

Never mind BigPete, the Echuca fly in is going to be something you've never experienced before!

I've entered you in the Gumleaf music competition and the mud wrestling. Was that OK?

Captain has been very possessive about this and has banned New Zealanders , everyone who doesn't have a beard, eveyone who doesn't fly a Jab (which didn't reduce the numbers much, and everyone who doesn't have a southern cross painted on the tail (which did), so he's the only entrant. (Don't tell anyone about the Southern Cross - he uses it to navigate, assuming it points to the south)

Changed my plans. Heading up 7am Friday and coming back Sat arvo. Only a chance of a shower if I've read the weather correctly. It will be the unlikely situation where I actually retreat TO Victoria for the good weather.

Some pics from Thursday

G'day all,

It looks to me like that trough is doing exactly what they predicted it to do, so I departed Wagga @ 7 am this morning and lobbed into Narromine at 08.30 am ........ then woosed out and came home this arvo, as I just can't afford to get stuck up there again this year.

Below are a few shots from today for those that can't make it at all.

You might notice that the best cables have been reserved for clusters of 230's, 200's and a 250, because they are recognised as such a swish machine.

And have a look at all of the chin-wagging that is shown in some pics. That's what Narromine is all about at Easter.

The final shot is the trough, just starting to grow some legs out west, on my way back south.

Regards Geoff

Good pics Geoff. Looks like a Jabiru stud-farm, not that there's anything wrong with that.

Was hoping that I might have bumped into you, to say G'day, but before i've finished making the sandwiches for the trip, your back home with your feet up.

I'm hoping to enjoy a hot cross Bakers bun for SadPete, so he does'nt feel left out.

Kind Regards

Planey

PS - Keep one of those buns on ice Planey  - I'll eat it at the Echuca Airshow. :yuk:

I'm all packed for an early departure tomorrow.

Keep an eye out for the new IBIS Magic GS 700 (hope I've got that right).

Saw it at Tooradin this evening ready to head to Narromine in the morning.

It pretty much looks like a Tecnam however many thousands $$$ cheaper! It's metalic grey on half of the fuse. It actually has conventional Cessna type controls!

I caught up with the Capitan briefly today, then whoosh! Like a rat out of a drain pipe.

To those who haven't got here yet, come on in - the water's fine.

If you get stuck here, you won't be alone.

Quite a few forum members here already.

Cheers,

Ross

Hopefully, scabbing a ride up in a Cirrus on Sunday.

Oh! ahlocks, what a spoilt brat.051_crying.gif.fe5d15edcc60afab3cc76b2638e7acf3.gif051_crying.gif.edc6b33a234e272ee13f0ec0ae40b12a.gif051_crying.gif.fe5d15edcc60afab3cc76b2638e7acf3.gif

Wanna swap it for a nice VFR ride on an XPT, at least it has a loo in board so you dont risk blowing a gasket:question:

The driver is the mongrel who got me into this flying folly! Gunna swap him some fast plastic time for some slow rivet flying...(He needs to relearn how to enjoy the view)

Haven't been for a blat with him since prior to my getting the RAA ticket. Should be interesting as a comparison if it goes ahead...040_nerd.gif.a6a4f823734c8b20ed33654968aaa347.gif

Any rumours worth sharing from your lightning visit question.gif.c2f6860684cbd9834a97934921df4bcb.gif

It's not a play on words, Pete, but the new wing on the Lightning looks terrific. It adds about 1000 to the span but Dennis reckons it also adds 5 - 7 knots at 7,500 ft, and as shown in the pic he quotes a max cruise of 150 knots, yet it is very slow when landing. If that is all fair dinkum, then WOW, is what I reckon.

The Instructor forums kicked off at high noon.

Had a nice chat with Wally R, then with Slarti & a few other Forum Members. Geez we are a nice bunch, and that must be why you and I fit in so well.

But no Hottie Buns yesterday. Guess Ian didn't want all those Instructor types to end up overweight.

There was one big rumour concerning a high profile player in the RAA aircraft scene, but I'll stay schtumm until that breaks officially.

On the way back I could see a buildup & some rain over Hillston way, but I hope the trough doesn't deepen or dampen the activities at Natfly, as there are a few others from here that were going up today. Normally I would have stayed like last year, but just couldn't take the chance this time, so I took the rodent & drainpipe option (however while I am dry, I am not proud of myself).

Regards Geoff

PS Yet as I finished writing this, a shower has just gone thru here ... bugger, eh?

Nice pictures Cap'tn,

The weather up here looks so far so good for the big gliding comp over at Dalby for the week... hopefully it stays that way! apparently there's about 55 gilders entered into the comp, so just a few...

I think I need to now go and catch up with what's happening around the forum... been picking the last few days (cotton), and I get home to late to do me new posts check:sad:

Ps... Happy Easter to all...

Have to agree with MrH. Great pic's Captain. I also dream of the day I can make it but, alas it being held each Easter I can't see that happening in the near future.

More pic's everyone.

Have a great Easter all, and for those attending, have a safe trip.
