1. My GME MT410G just arrived from Whitworth's. Still $599 and took only 10 days from order to delivery.
2. No worries Mark. My waypoint list was posted here. You're in Geelong, so it might have most of the waypoints you need already. There are others in that thread. Maptrax is a great source for your prescanned charts.
3. Cheers guys. I kinda like it too. There's shots of it in both Pacific Flyer and the RAA mag this month. I spent this weekend doing maintenance, and even that is a fun weekend. Had to have a quick (hour) flight on Saturday to warm up the oil of course. What a beautiful day. Sunday not so good. 3 aircraft had to stay at Goulburn because they couldn't get back to Camden due to low cloud. Made for a very social weekend. One of them was a superb Dimona motor-glider. I'd love one of those too. Glad you enjoy the photos.
4. Last weekend the Snowy River Aviators held an open day. About 20 aircraft covering a fair gamut of types turned up, and most of the townspeople (2 of the 3) visited to check things out. I have just stolen a bit of time for a quick run through the darkroom for these shots and thought I'd share. Now it's subdivided to the max. We used to ski on that dam (jet driven Chev) but now only the deep bit has water. I haven't had any shots like this until now. Very cool to have. It was a great day. A bunch of GA types turned up. A gaggle of trikes flew over from Tumut. Lots of aviation and flychat. Isn't it nice when the politics stops?
5. Tomo - your spelling is just as bad in morse. It should be : -.-- --- ..- .----. .-. . .-- . .-.. -.-. --- -- . How come your French spelling is better?
6. The latter - that'll be why you missed it. The point was that the people concerned (the voters) know where to look. It would be great if we could post it here for the rest of us. I can find out.
7. All we published here is John's election statement, although he did post a link to where he has published more of his view. His statement is publicly available, and was posted to NSW and ACT members along with all the other candidate's statements. I pointed out where the opposite point of view was published, and invited other candidates to post their election statements here too. To me, that is information - not taking sides. Perhaps we should invite the board to post their response to John's statement here. I would urge members who might be seriously affected to read the information which is available and make their own minds up.
8. Remember this one Arthur? That's the mock-up for my plane using Garry's Sierra (with the original canopy). It was a quick and dirty, but great for getting the ideas sorted.
9. If you live in NSW or ACT, the other side of the argument is included in your RAAus magazine. They have bundled all the candidate's election statements with your ballot paper and a reply paid envelope. Printed along with JG's statement is a paragraph putting the board's point of view on John's version of events. Of course, all the other candidates are welcome to post their election statements here too. What we do not want is to bring the politcal battle to our arena. This site needs to remain impartial for the good of all and to foster the flow of information. Ross
10. My wife insisted on right of reply. See her comebacks below: (Re 13 - she must be talking about a previous relationship) Sixteen reasons why airplanes are easier to live with than women: 1) Airplanes usually kill you quickly - a woman takes her time. Would you like to be killed the first time you're with a woman or would you like more of them? 2) Airplanes can be turned on by a flick of a switch. And if you don't they're no fun at all. 3) Airplanes don't get mad if you do a "touch and go. But if you do it badly they can kill you. 4) Airplanes don't object to a pre-flight inspection. And if you don't they can kill you. 5) Airplanes come with manuals to explain their operation. If you don't learn about them they can kill you. 6) Airplanes have strict weight and balance limitations. And if they don't they can kill you. 7) Airplanes can be flown any time of the month. GREAT! But not if it's raining, too windy, snowing, hailing, or if you're drunk. 8) Airplanes don't come with in-laws. But pilots do. 9) Airplanes don't care about how many other airplanes you've flown before. Like women, they know you need the practice. 10) Airplanes and pilots both arrive at the same time. Especially at the crash scene. 11) Airplanes don't mind if you look at other airplanes. But they can kill you if you look too long in the air. 12) Airplanes don't mind if you buy airplane magazines. Women don't mind if you buy womens' magazines--you might learn something about them! 13) Airplanes expect to be tied down. Hey it's husbands who complain about being tied down. 14) Airplanes don't comment on your piloting skills. But they can kill you if your technique is lousy. 15) Airplanes don't whine unless something is really wrong. And then they can kill you. 16) However, when airplanes go quiet, just like women, it's usually not good. But the airplane is more likely to kill you. So now which is more dangerous--an airplane or a woman??
11. Wasn't me. I can read it and I thought it was a great idea.
12. And we're off. Here is the inaugural month thread for the new Pacific Flyer Monthly Photo Competition. Check the readme sticky for the rules (nothing tricky there) and post your entries into this thread for your chance to win a 6 month subscription to Pacific Flyer magazine, or to get your photo published. It's not May until Friday, but let's start early.
13. I just got around to checking your link (busy long weekend here) and discovered that the link was to a full pirated version of the book. We cannot condone links to illegal material, and copyright laws should be fully respected on this site. I read the book many years ago, and I highly recommend it to all. Do yourself a favour, go out and buy the book. At least borrow it from a friend (every second person has it - it was on the best-seller list for 2 years) or a library. Cheers, Ross
14. Easy. It's this one.
15. Ban the lot of you if you don't start cleaning up your language - and I don't mean making the swear words shiny. The entire NES crew were somewhat taken aback by the directness of slartiadministratorfast's directive but, with new found respect for his authority, vowed to comply. "Make it so" said Captain (a Star Trek reference).
16. Rotten luck Pete. I was crestfallen at not being able to attend. I did manage to pick up my crest and go grape picking. It hasn't been a great year for cool climate (and high altitude) grapes either. We only got about a tonne of pinot noir. Sunday saw flurries of snow and very strong gusts of wind, so the chardonnay and riesling is still on the vines. We retired to the house to watch videos by the fire. How about organizing another event at Echuca Pete? Third time lucky. You'd better do it now while you're in practice.
17. Thanks - that would be awesome. I've been having trouble getting time. I'll sticky it when it gets underway. Cheers, Ross
18. Yep. They retain their original road nav software and will run either at the poke of a finger. They run for 3-4 hours on batteries generally.
19. Seen the forecast GFS? It's going to be as windy as a post-curry night. Looks like I get to go help with the grape picking after all.
20. Yep - aircraft power is the way to go. A question for all :- If we were to provide these devices through Clear Prop with OziExplorer and your choice of maps already loaded and ready to go, still covered by manufacturers warranty and our support for the setup, would there be any takers? It occurs to me that the procedure for unlocking may be a bit much for the technically challenged, and may lead people to pay thousands more than they need to for GPS navigation. These units provide everything you could need for recreational aviation. You don't need terrain awareness when you can see the terrain 5 kilometres away. Because you are flying by WACs, VNCs and VTCs you have full CTA and restricted zone awareness. What else could you want? If we could source the devices cheap, get a deal on OziExplorer, and get discounts on maps from MapTrax, we could probably provide the devices ready to go for about $500 - maybe less. I could throw in my waypoint list and main navigation page layout for nix. Any interest? Ross
21. Hi Gordon and welcome. You posted this in another "Just Landed" thread, so I thought I'd move it here to a new one all for you. Cheers, Ross
22. They made me chuckle. I took the 5th one (of Lachlan). What's with the bum shots? He took a great shot of the inside of my coffee cup too. Where is it? It was fantastic to see the kids really enjoy the weekend Ian. You should be able to get them there next year now.
23. It is Geoff. I use it all the time and find their synoptic charts to be pretty accurate and a great guide to what's going on. Just don't rely on their wind forecasts. Even when they say strong winds, the wind column still says 16kph or something silly.
24. Seen this? Strong cold winds, showers, snow .... I don't think we're in Kansas anymore.
