  1. Had that today. We were tracking about 090 and someone was tracking 010 across us at same altitude. They crossed our path about 10 mile ahead. Thanks Ozrunaways.
  2. All true, Onetrack, I was trying to understand the marketing of them to the general population. I suspect some confusion with CO. As I recall, increased CO2 causes rapid breathing which tells you something is wrong. As you say, it displaces O2 and low O2 symptoms is something pilots should know about.
  3. Ok, not getting an answer here I looked it up. My interpretation is that co2 detectors are made because they can be, and the marketing of them is based on peoples fear of the greenhouse end of the world. In other words, they are total BS. Of course, detection of CO2 in blood is an important medical technology.
  4. CO detectors I understand. But what are CO2 detectors used for?
  5. I once saw an interview with a chap who survived a flaming airline crash because he had his shoes on and wore a leather jacket. I have been inclined to keep my shoes and jacket handy for landings ever since.
  6. The Skyecho has made my relaxed and enjoyable flying a lot more stressful, looking for traffic I previously knew nothing about!
  7. And parallax is why something looks bigger when you look at it on an angle, rather than straight down, as noticed in public urinals.
  8. Also for clearing blockages by hitting the cocking handle of your Vickers machine gun.
  9. BREAKING NEWS: emergency services are currently on the scene in Balwyn North after a light plane was forced to make an emergency landing at a reserve, next to the Eastern Freeway. It's understood the pilot was travelling from Bendigo. It's a Cherokee six, nice landing!
  10. This was my brand new 10 litre tuff jug, which is well calibrated. The other 20 litre plastic ones have a 20 litre mark, they have never blown up. I think the servo calibration is wrong in their advantage.
  11. I bought PULP 98 yesterday from my local BP. Calibrated plastic jerry cans. Bowser said 10 litres, jerry can said 9.6, it was a cold day. Experiment repeated for a total of 90 litres in the ten and four 20 litre jerry cans, I paid for 94 litres.
  12. I think some publishers have their own searchable subscription services for more recent papers. So it is a commercial thing. I don't know whether there is a rolling time limit or how it works, but there seems to be a growing resource of more recent material on Trove.
  13. The lack of coverage is a Trove thing. It does not index most commercial papers after 1952 due to copyright limitations.
  14. All the crash comics can be downloaded here https://collections.heritageoftheair.org.au/items/browse?page=2
  15. Young Harry has not been around since Moe McCachy retired.
  16. Having been at the scene of an RV9A flip, I can confirm that the canopy had to be smashed from the outside.
  17. The 115 just slips into RAA 760 kg category. Not with the larger engines.
  18. Thanks to those who recommended the Tuff Jug. It is easy to use and gives a 10 litre fill with no spills. If the filler hole is smaller than the 35mm spout, then you need the extra adaptor as well. My problem is solved!
  19. 110 knots is easy, at only 5100rpm, I haven't tried fine tuning things. I have been focussed on learning to use the autopilot. They advertise 115 kts, but that probably needs 5300 rpm I guess.
