Hi Bruce, the jab LSA stall warning can be made to go off on landing, but like you I find it usually doesn't. A few times it's just started to squeak in the flare, for me.

Scott, may i suggest that before you build, do some flying! get some lessons, find out what you want to do, what you like/don't like; just get some hours up. You'll love it! Stay safe, have fun.

very interesting: can you elaborate? In any case, I thought airbuses could be readily changed into alternate law, as well as another "cessna" mode? I should mention that as a jabiru pilot, I'm unlikely to ever run into these issues. -

agreed; unfortunately because of his complete failure at fuel planning he's taken 70 people with him.

yes, I think it's called fuel planning, we all do it; that and don't take chances.

these opposed piston engines are very large; might be Ok for a truck or a ship; will be too big (IMHO) for a car or light plane.

I don't think it's fair to blame ATC in any way, after all she was dealing with another plane that had declared a problem. The pilot (who also owned the airline) appears to have planned the flight in such a way that he would have landed with virtually no reserve. When he was put in a hold, he failed to immediately declare a fuel emergency. The problem was likely compounded by poorly maintained batteries, so the instant the engines stopped, he lost virtually all electrics. He was flying in mountainous terrain at night with a dark cockpit, a horrible situation. It seems that his own misadventure put him in that position.

it's like new cars; every time one comes out it's 3%/7%/10% etc better. If these claims were true they'd run on fresh air. -

If a no fault insurance system shortens the time to an insurance payout, and simplifies the process, then I'm all for it. I have a great deal of sympathy for the nurse who puts her trust in the aviation system (and note I'm not blaming the pilot), then suffers an injury and is dragged through the courts for years. -

Having dealt with a number of governments via various committees and so-called peak bodies, I've cynically come to the conclusion that the term "peak body" is (but not necessarily) just another of the weasel techniques used by governments. I've several times seen, and been involved in, the situation in which the minister (or their delegate) has established a "peak body" to ostensibly provide advice and governance. The government department then (i) does whatever the hell it pleases, even if this is the opposite of the peak body recommendation, and (ii) claims that it has fully consulted with and been guided by the peak body. The term "peak body" has no legal significance, nor any agreed definition, and it's one that I avoid. Having seen state govt health and education departments up close (and they love the term), I think that the concept of a peak body would get full approval from Joseph Goebbels. No doubt there are many people who will point out examples of a peak body that works well. -

they were very lucky to survive that. -
sounds like the pilot was a brave man; among other things had a parachute, but it was only 400ft up, probably not enough.
