Rex aircraft losses a prop mid-flight
cooperplace replied to planedriver's topic in Aircraft Incidents and Accidents
Dutch, thanks again for an informative and very useful posting; I always enjoy reading your posts, your knowledge is appreciated. -
I started the jab this morning, haven't flown for a couple of months, the prop has been balanced in the meantime, and my first thought was, my god, it's smooth, like a different engine.

like the flight attendant in the 1964 Essendon DC6B incident, where a prop fell off: she went up to the flight deck and said the crew were "as busy as one-armed paper hangers". -

and the scratches should buff out.... -
no need for the apology: you did what you needed to do, and you're doing a great job, much appreciated.

Hope this doesn't offend: I was once on a SAA Jo'berg-PER flight and heard the male flight attendant, definitely a bachelor if you see what I mean, say that SAA used to go to SYD "which was maaaarvellous but now we stop in Perth which is like (here he assumed tones of extreme contempt) Bloemfontein!" so i gather your home town lacks somewhat in the gay nightlife dept!. Anyway, it's great to hear from you and safe flying.

I hope they squirted some rust inhibitor into those Huey motors prior to storage!

Hi Bruce, I drove to maralinga a couple of years ago, amazing place. I highly recommend a visit. if you're looking for a passenger to share the costs I'd be keen. I could pop out to Parafield; I live in Adelaide Cheers
-
if you can detour to Maralinga, it's well worth it. Also there's a fabulous long strip there, in perfect condition. Make sure you ask for permission first. A trip to Maralinga is amazing. Ground zero of the bomb sites are still very sinister places. Caretaker Robin Mathews is a great guy. If you're interested in this pm me for more details.

Air Charter crashes at Essendon

"Strategy can compensate for lack of talent but talent never compensates for lack of strategy." I like this; do you know who said it first? -
PA28 down near Traralgon - 2 shaken, not injured.

and he still landed 1km from the strip; but glide approaches can be tough; I practice them often and don't always get it right. But the main thing is no-one's hurt. -

if you connect with journalists, you sometimes find that they are hungry for the facts, keen to be educated, and can be worked with. I talk to them quite a lot in regard to my profession, which is in the sciences, and they usually make an effort to get the facts right. There seems to be a lower level of accuracy in the media reporting on aviation, but I think one solution is for people with expert knowledge to gently correct them. Journalists (most of them) are human. -
hey SrPilot that's great. Anytime you want to post your memories of the B58 (does memory serve me correct?) or any of the other fancy aircraft you've flown, I'll be happy read it here. Safe flying.

pilotless aircraft? or does nobody know who flew them? sounds v odd.

Post journalist's abysmal incident reports here
cooperplace replied to old man emu's topic in Aviation Laughter
yes, well, we all think he could do with some help. I'm told that particular aviation expert is not even a pilot, nor an aeronautical engineer, LAME, ATC, or any other form of aviation trained person we can think of. But he is still an aviation expert; we know this because it says so in the papers. -

you could try ringing up the journalist, in a nice way, and educating them. Seriously. I talk to journalists all the time; they are only human. You run the risk of them calling you every time they have an aviation question, but wouldn't you prefer that? Most journalists would love to have an aviation expert on their speed-dial list. -
Aircraft incident Nanneela Vici
cooperplace replied to tillmanr's topic in Aircraft Incidents and Accidents
