  1. Hi Mick , i know this thread is 4.5 yrs old , just wondering if you did make any CX4 canopies and if though are they available now Cheers Jim G
  2. Air Creation , can you show some respect for the tragic loss of these two people and shift your advertising to an appropriate thread. I understand you have a point to make but this thread is NOT the place for it. I only knew John briefly and would say G'day in passing some Saturday mornings at the field. This has been an unbelievably tragedy and shock, my heart goes to the friends and families of John and Jason. RIP John and Jason JimG
  3. There have been no reported cases of 'vapour lock' in the 1000+ worldwide fleet of Foxbats - except for one aircraft in SE Queensland. ( Silverwing quote from 'Jabiru engine failure, post # 113) Well I wouldn't expect their to be a problem in the UK , it appears the LAA are on to it. http://www.foxbataircraft.com/resources/A22,A22L,A22LS type acceptance.pdf Section 2.6 LAA REQUIRED MODIFICATIONS item 5. cheers Jim G
  4. Well I wouldn't expect their to be a problem in the UK , it appears the LAA are on to it. http://www.foxbataircraft.com/resources/A22,A22L,A22LS%20type%20acceptance.pdf Section 2.6 LAA REQUIRED MODIFICATIONS item 5. cheers Jim G
  5. Moderators , perhaps a new thread could be started as it seems this thread has been hi- jacked by this Foxbat discussion . Cheers Jim G
  6. Would suggest operating that aircraft is a willing deviance from a regulation or at the very least a safe practice. This is absolutely not the case ! The Tech Dept response to this 'closed case' is contradictory . The report reads ' The small holes were stop drilled which is an acceptable practise. ' also '(that were not addressed with a replacement of the screen)' . The FACTS are this , when the aircraft was new and still under warranty very small cracks were noticed within days of taking delivery of the aircraft, the importer was notified , in a relatively short time the cracks had grown but still very small , again the importer was notified , advise was given and the L2 who does the regular service and maintenance of the fleet then stop drilled them IAW the current foxbat maintenance manual. there is no 'normalisation of deviance' going on here. The Owner was never happy with this and even though the cracks had stabilized, the aircraft had a booking the very next day to have the windscreen replaced, but obvious a day too late . ozbear , Dan is well aware of the facts and the report has been on the RAA website since a few days after the incident date 05/06/16. 7. Any updates on if the instrument will be lifted or amended on July 1st . ? JimG
  8. Flying my little Tyro to your farm is still on my list , just need some time. Hey, the dual stick controls look great , your arm and legs seem to be comfortably unimpeded. cheers JimG
  9. I think I read somewhere that fuel pressure from an engine driven mechanical fuel pump in governed by the diaphragm return spring. A fuel pressure of 4 bar spiking to 6-7 bar would equal to 59.7 psi spiking to 89.4 - 104.3 psi. I,ve been in a Foxbat that has a fuel pressure gauge and it reads a constant 5 psi which would equal .34 bar, although I can't say if it has a fuel return line or not. Maybe Neil is meaning .4 bar cheers JimG
  10. Not wanting to disregard the importance of following the rotax installation manual . How many skilled pilots have died as a direct result manufacturers not follow the installation manual . Just asking.? Jim G
  11. Thanks Lyndon, do you know if the had the camshaft re-nitrided ? cheers JimG
  12. Hi Lyndon , can you tell me where you had the camshaft and lifters reground. cheers JimG
  13. That is really great news, well done for having the tenacity to see it though. Cheers Jim G
  14. And what an awesome training machine that'll be now. 2000 hr TBO does solve the biggest issue using Drifters in a flying school. Hope the certificate come easily and many others follow your example. Great work JimG
  15. Just so you know, the proprietor of Kyle Communications ( very good friend of mine ) , name is Mark Kyle . He doesn't get offended at all by this mistake , I just thought I'd let everyone know......and he sure is good at electronics ! Cheers to all Jim G
  16. Thanks Tom , I know a few installations and they all appear to be going fine. I'll give you a call later. cheers JimG
  17. I'm after a Rotax 'C' box with a 3:1 or 3.47:1 ratio if anyone knows of any for sale s/hand. cheers JimG
  18. Yes Big Fella, not that simple ,the 2 into one system crosses over underneath the engine . Frt left joins right rear and frt right joins left rear. The biggest mistake is making the pipe too large. Keep the primary pipes the same dia as the std rotax pipes then to a merge collector ( 2 to 1 ) and the secondary pipe only 1/8" larger . That's it, the plan is to be unrestricted high velocity to promote good scavenging and minimize pumping loss. I'f you are serious about trying this I have a few pipe design programs, I can run the numbers through. The pipes on Bob's Lycoming RV9A look disproportionally small and they are purpose designed for power and economy and they definitely deliver on both with a smooth idle. JimG
  19. Sure the noise will be substantially higher but I wouldn't worry too much about that where we operate with Tiger Moth's , P51 and that bloody loud prop on the jump plane..! Just use a good noise cancelling head set, Bob has that in his RV9A and it is beaut to fly. As for tuning, I'll approach that in the same way as I tune racing engines, safely overrich especially in the middle and WOT and then carefully work it back into tune using EGT's and AFR's . Mostly on the ground tied to a tree and when close in the air overhead the field. JimG
  20. If I put the 912ULS in my Karatoo , I'll be making a pair of 2 into one pipes with no mufflers . It'll be very similar to the systems most RV's are running on their Lycomings. This would yield the best performance if the carby's are rejetted correctly. The jury is still out here though as I'm finding it difficult to turn my back on almost 1 years work and money setting up my EA81 and redrive. JimG
  21. Did Geoff buy the genuine muffler, I'll have his motor till the end of the week so if it is ,you could borrow that one for a look see. JimG
  22. Gympie ran a comp a couple of years ago which included spot landing and flour bombing. I'm not sure if they have done any since or plan for more. I would certainly like to compete , It'd be great fun and a test of skill . JimG
  23. Tim , how is Dwayne going now , I sure do hope he is starting to recover from his injuries. JimG
