59 inch Bolly prop v 58inch IVO prop
Cosmick replied to fred cenko's topic in Powered Chutes etc Usergroup
Hi Fred, as you know I have the 63" Bolly and previously the 59" Bolly. First thing you notice is that the Bolly's are a lot quieter than the Ivo with its square end. My findings are Bolly 59" - I originally spoke to Peter at Bolly and he described the 59' as being less rigid down one side so the with increased RPM the pitch would be finer for climb out and at cruise with lower RPM the pitch became course. Downside I find when 2 up, higher revs required for straight and level as pitch would again become fine. Bolly 63" - Extra expense due to Factory approved modification to airframe. Again a much quieter prop with low RPM cruise and good climb out. Will be interesting to see results from the new wide blade 55" Bolly due out soon. Info for those not aware of the Aerochute flight characteristics. The aircraft (32 rego Factory Built) is supplied with a 370 sqft rectangular parachute which has no trim. Due to limiting features the Aircraft cannot Stall or Spin. The level of drag is constant and the Airspeed cannot be changed (around 30knt) other that to add or remove weight hence the above discussions re RPM at S&L. you Take off, fly and land at the same speed, more power and you climb, less power and you decrease height, no power and glide is 4:1 -
Think I'd take the Mother in Law for a spin

A mate and I were flying our PPC's out near Goondiwindi chasing Pigs forr the guys on the ground with dogs (owners permission to fly low etc etc), when finished I was at 1000 agl waiting for Andy to land into a 10 kt headwind, as the airspeed of the Aerochute is 30 kt I had a while to wait. I had this sensation of going nowhere and I looked at the GPS for ground speed and I was doing 2 kts. I then realised I was going backwards. No problem, once Andy was clear I lost altitude into milder winds.

What is the aircraft for a trike under Ra-Aus?
Cosmick replied to kasper's topic in Trikes and Microlight Aircraft Usergroup
With Powered Parachutes there has never been a Rego number on the Canopy as there is none on a Trike Wing. Numbers appear on the back of the fuel tank (Aerochute). If you note 2.01-2 in the new ops manual - 2. In addition to Paragraph 1 of this Section, a Pilot Certificate holder must not act as pilot in command of a Group D recreational aeroplane unless the person holds a logbook endorsement issued by an RA-Aus Examiner stating: a. the canopy types they are endorsed on, e.g. Box (rectangular), Semielliptical or Elliptical; and b. the performance characteristic of each canopy type they are endorsed on e.g. Low or High flight envelope; and c. the specific characteristics of the base e.g. foot or hand control, steerable or fixed nose wheel, hand or foot throttle etc.; and d. in the case of carrying passengers, meets the requirements outlined in Section 2.07, Paragraph 10.b. Suggest you email Neil Schaefer Assist Ops Manager (and Trike Pilot among many others) for clarification. -
Better put a bowser at the north west end to top up after the taxi.

Nice Fly at Caboolture - Beachmere
Cosmick replied to Cosmick's topic in Powered Chutes etc Usergroup
Yeah thats the way its taught here in Aus, Aerochute Industries the Manufacturer wrote the syllabus way back when for RAA and approved by CASA. Has been adopted in some other countries where Aerochute exports too. When solo you sit in the middle and can shift your weight to effect slow turns. Most other makes have tandem seating. -

We do a run up before the chute is deployed, bit of time between that and take off, I've done over 200 take off's and several off us in the area and no issues to date. Closer to the Trailer CFI in the area can do TIF's, either here or nearest south of you would be COWRA. The PAX is a pilot with his own machine but sometimes its nice to be social. -
