  1. Welcome to Australia Pat, well sort of. You'll find we're a friendly lot and will answer your questions without prejudice.
  2. OH Great video. Well put together.
  3. Well that's a sure right off. Glad the pilot is ok.
  4. Glad to see that you belted up for your second flight young lady. Great video guys.
  5. MEN WHO FLY The men who fly are a breed of men Unto themselves. We’ll not know again The little boy on a grassy hill Who sees a hawk and knows the thrill Of the summer wind on an up-turned wing, And the joy a graceful flight can bring. Borrowed from Magnificent Men & their Flying Machines public group | Facebook There was a dream in this boy’s eyes, That reflected the challenge of distant skies. The passing of time and the graying of hair..... But the eye is still sharp and the light is still there. And he sees, as he scans the far blue sky, A dream that is missed by the passerby. The men who fly are a special breed. It’s true...they spring from a certain seed. A new kind of pilot has now made the scenes His flesh is firm and his mind is keen. He’s good .. it’s true .. no need to ask. The computers say he’s right for the task. His eyes, like steel, his determined face Show he’s looking farther into space. But his life will never know the thrill Of the little boy on the grassy hill. Where, as far as his eager eyes could see, The air was clean and the sky was free; Where the hawk soared high on the summer air And the boy imagined he was there. Before it’s too late, if the world is wise, It will honor these men who love the skies. Pat Branin Douglass

  6. I was joking but you could be right. Truck MAY have towed it from the Continent to the UK.
  7. IMHO, they're almost at a highway junction and in the fast lane. overtaking the cars. The canopy wasn't securely locked and has blown open at their high rate of speed. The truck (lorry) is left-hand drive so it's probably in France. Now you're going to go back and check, right?
  8. It has never made sense to me that twin/multiple tanks aren't cross connected so that they all feed, all of the time. Sure, in the event of a fuel leak there'd be a problem but that's not insurmountable if isolation taps were provided for such an emergency. Glad I only have one tank to worry about on my Thruster.
  9. Now, was it a crash, or was it a forced landing?
  10. OK, no replies to my last post which leads me to ask this. Where do all the salvaged instruments go? There must be a huge pile somewhere but I've searched the web and can't find any. I can't believe they're all smashed up, either in a crash or after the salvage operation. If you know of somewhere I can look, please do tell.
  11. That last landing was particularly sweet but tell me, where the hell do you go in a EFATO in either direction? Not a lot of options I think.
  12. OK, next request and one that's been out there for other before me. My plane came with a few instruments, a bit of a panel and some bits of wire. With the exception of the dual CHT gauge, I'll probably not use the ASI in MPH, nor the real ancient altimeter, nor the dual EGT gauge. The rev counter is usable but I don't really like the half circle design. So, I'm on the scrounge for cheap replacements. Can, glass and bezel condition not important as I intend to re-house them with imported equipment. Obviously, all gauges must be complete and in working order. Also need a Rate of climb/descent gauge. I'm looking for instruments that will fit in a 4inch square can. Not asking much am I? This is what I hope it will all look like in the end. Please search your workshops guys. Will pay what I can afford for the items, and full postage. Any one wanting the spare gauges, they're yours if and when I get replacements, No charge.
  13. Bloody 'ell mate, what don't you do? Love it.
  14. Looks likely that the failed engine will be salvageable to fly again, which can't be said for the rest of the plane. Sod's law, the culprit get away with it again.
  15. I also suffer from lefthanditus. Left-handed to start with and often find the left side of the runway, but, sometimes, even when not expecting it, I get it so right. This video shows my landing without using my left hand at because it was holding a camera. Just goes to show that if the preparation is right, the finish will also be right. Enjoy, or not;-) Dropbox - [email protected]
  16. I bow to your superior knowledge Nev. I'm more familiar with conventional flat heads. Had a 3.3ltr straight 6 in a Nash Rambler many years ago. Would pull the side of a house off. It's a pity the 'T' head didn't get developed as that was another awesome, simple flat head with the X flow breatherbility., and higher revving I believe.
  17. Failing that, a D-Motor should be the way to go. Side valve engines don't rev high but have low rev grunt. My Dad once had an Austin with a 750 cc motor. That thing would start at the bottom of a 8 :1 hill with 5 on board and go straight up albeit slowly. I've seen new cars (1950's) stall part way up the hill.
  18. Thanks for the offer Pete but I don't think it would be worth your time and effort. Too many differences.
  19. Way to go Marty. We need lighter batteries before I'd spend money on going electric though.
  20. Been a delay as my router went done. Optus techies on line couldn't fix the problem but did send me 3, yes 3, replacement routers. First one I tried had the same fault. After a weeks trying to fix the problem, I paid out for my own techie and a TP-Link router. System up and going in 15 minutes. Router *3 arrived four days later. Now in the process of getting my costs back from Optus, plus a months free interrnet. I had tried contacting Kay prior to the problem but she appears to have changed her email address. Had her phone number but lost it somewhere. Thanks for your other suggestions guys, I will follow them up. No work being done on the ol' bird at the moment as I sliced the side of my finger off whilst chopping onions for a steak sandwich. Never found the bit I cut off but the sandwich was delicious. It had that undefinable difference to its taste ;-)
  21. Hindley Street is still famous, or should that be infamous, especially at night.
  22. What category does it come under: high wing, head wing, shoulder wing? Unusual design but I like it. Might get a bit hot under that canopy though.
  23. OK then, let's try 'your neck of the woods'. Presumably there's an air strip there.
  24. Any idea what that balloon like thing was, Not a balloon I think. Never seen smoke that thick and dark in colour before.
  25. Sent an email to Kay and it got returned. She must have changed her web address. Will try phoning later.
