Well Bob As for bikkies we didn't eat any from the terminal so I don't know if any are there We had the cucumber sangas again and I bought my own tea bags and milk I think Peter from Marlo might have left a 2 lt milk in the fridge but I cannot promise you Would have been great to have had you join us but enjoy tomorrow

Well Guys & Girls I though yesterday was great flying to Tyabb with Doc Well let me just say 4 aircraft planned to fly from West Sale to Marlo (Orbost) today It then went to 6 as 2 from Bairnsdale tagged along Low and behold we get to Marlo and are having a cuppa (and yes once again cucumber sandwiches) when 2 more aircraft arrive from Bairnsdale making it 8. Thinking we are doing well 3 more aircraft 2 from Yarram and another from West Sale landed unbeknown to us they were coming msking it 11 ring ins + 1 local from Marlo (Morgan Cheetah) for a grand total of 12 on the tightly packed apron Aircraft consisted of 1 Tecnam Sierra (mine) a C172, 2 x Foxbats and a J430 all out of West Sale 1 Tecnam Super Echo along with a Piper Tomahawk a DynaAero sportster and a CTLS out of Bairnsdale, 2 Skyfoxes out of Yarram Was a fantastic turnout and the most aircraft I have ever seen at one time at Marlo Here are some pics of the day

About 4 1/2hrs of airtime today, flew with Doc from West Sale to Tyabb in his Foxbat to get the prop adjusted by Peter Harlow. Slow trip down as we were punching into a decent 25 to 30 kts headwind, 1.5 hrs down with a GS of around 63 kts for the 82 nm trip, Prop was done then a test fly with Peter & Doc for about 1/2 hr saw good results. Trip home was much quicker with almost double the GS we had on the way down, saw 120+ kts at times and a flight time of just 45 mins. Packed Foxy away and then Doc dropped me off home, so what did I do you may ask? just jumped in my car and headed back out to the airport to fly my plane. Headed up to Bairnsdale and conducted 3 x touch n goes then tracked back to WSL to meet up with a young RAA pilot who wanted to have a look at my plane. Young Matt was suitably impressed and decided to come for a fly in the jet as he called it, bit of time flying around Sale township and a couple of T & G's saw the day come to the end with around 4 1/2 hrs of looking down on this beautiful earth of ours. So what is on the agenda for tomorrow you may ask? Well thinking a nice little trip up to Marlo and back is in order with 4 or 5 other planes tagging along LTD, Living The Dream I call it cheers Alf

I'm guessing if it was suicide he didn't want it to be found as his insurance wouldn't pay out to his family if it was deemed suicide. Guess that if the plane is never found you cannot prove otherwise and the payout cannot be withheld My personal opinion on the whole saga is just that which is not only selfish to take others with you but just a mongrel of an act

Had a great weekend of flying Friday afternoon after the base closed went on a jolly to Warragul to spot the bus my mate was on coming from Melbourne to Bairnsdale Spied Micks bus then promted to tell him I would call him when I got to Bairnsdale to see how far the bus progressed Well I'm in Bairnsdale overflying and he made it to Moe a mere 20 miles ahead while I covered 80 nm, damn I love flying, I returned to West Sale and had the plane away and was home before his bus came past Saturday was a solo jolly from West Sale to Yarram in my plane with my mate Doc in his Foxbat, couple of hrs chewing the fat with Jim C from Yarram then Doc headed back to YWSL while I jollied to Bairnsdale then back to YWSL via VFR route 1 to top off another top day Sunday saw 3 planes depart YWSL for YORB Doc in his FB, Mick L (micks trike) on here and not the Mick from Friday's adventure who was trike pilot and now a recent 3 axis convert in his iS FB and myself in the Tecnam Sierra (or as Doc calls it "the spitfire") Awesome flight up to Marlo was had in beautiful conditions and after landing we then indulged in to some Queens sandwiches as Doc calls them (cucumber) Doc has raved so many times to me about cucumber sandwiches in the past so I thought I would surprise him and bring some just baked bread, some butter and a couple of Lebanese cucumbers along with some tea bags and milk I must say they ain't bad if I say so myself and can see why he likes them Anyways a great day was had and a great flight between 3 good mates Few photos of Sunday

Well after working in India for a while I can see why it happens, most locals carry far more carry on than allowed and the culture of even boarding the plane is so far out of control. On every occasion I was boarding a flight to come home they would call for example people for rows 50 to 60 to board, every time almost everyone got up except for the skippy and the Pom and started pushing and shoving to board the plane. I used to joke to old mate that I hoped someone was going to be sitting in the rows farther forward or the plane would be sitting on its tail. I would often if I was in the rows called get in line and casually move and leave a gap of a few feet, I would have passengers trying to push me along but being twice the build I would just block them, it would get to the point I would turn around ask them what is your hurry and they would say we have to get on the plane, my response was this sucker ain't going anywhere until everyone is boarded so stop pushing, half the reason I think was to get their carry on in the lockers Then you want to be sitting in it when they arrive at the arrival gate, as soon as one person stands up even if the seat belt sign is still on everyone of that culture almost gets up, then it becomes a race to get off and collect your 4 + carry ons and looks just like the video They believe in enchala (gods will) if they are meant to die they will so may as well try and get all my stuff off Note: usually the professionals or educated are far more tolerant than just the average Joe who travels, it's a culture thing -
Had a cracker of a monthly meeting today at the East Gippsland Aero Club in Bairnsdale with one of the guest speakers being a local legend by the name of Ben Buckley from Omeo/Benambra area For those in the know of Ben I need say no more, for those of you who don't know of Ben I will fill you in on just a little of this East Gippsland legend aviator Ben was a career ag pilot who on a number of occasions ran foul of CASA and ended up having his licence suspended or cancelled more that a dozen times in his career as over regulated CASA rules were not for this bush pilot. Legend has it Ben flew under the snowy river bridge at Orbost frightening the crap out of the workers constructing it, when CASA came calling on him he denied it telling them that it wasn't him and that his wing span was wider than the pylons supporting the structure so it was impossible and the workers must have been delusional CASA being happy with that after taking measurements agreed and no further action was taken, funny thing is with a forward slip it is possible to fit between the pylons but we will leave it at that as no one in their right mind would try that eh? Ben had made a number of mercy flights over the years saving limbs and lives flying through atrocious conditions to get them to Melbourne and Albury for urgent medical attention and is still loved by the locals to this day. Ben also has flown a 2 stroke Lightwing from Mallacoota to Haas on New Zealand's South Island, why you may ask, because no one had ever flown an ultralight direct across the Tasman, after departing Mallacoota in far East Gippsland with his Lightwing full of fuel in the wings and Ben's many own 20 litre drums destined initially for the tip rigged up inside the cabin he landed in New Zealand 11.5 hours later, did he have approval from Beaurocrats in Australia, na not really they wouldn't have let him go he says in his own words, was it fool hardy? Well the engine doesn't know it's over water does it he says and I agree, he had an immersion suit which a helicopter pilot wanted him to test out but he had to pay him $2000 dollars first in case he didn't come back. And yes he got his money back. I could go on and on about this local legend and could listen to him for hours and hours and never tire of him but I will leave it at that. Was Ben reckless at times yeah I would say so, was he skillful in his chosen career, most definitely, was he lucky, yes Ben has had some luck but Ben's skill has also played a big part on him making it to 80 years old. If you want some awesome reading look for a book called Buckleys Chance written by Bob Stevens, it is not in print these days but I was fortunate enough to hunt one down on eBay a few years back and it is some of the best reading on the life of this now spritely 80 year old who has logged the best part of 30,000 hours Speaking of another legend I must thank Bob Docking (Biggles) on here and his wife Sally for the awesome catering at today's meeting. If there was a nice red horn button installed somewhere in the panel that might be feasible to do But having a can a compressed air horn can floating around in the back seat/ luggage compartment then trying to find it wouldn't be feasible unless of course you want to spend all your flying life with the can between your legs, then you have the issue of opening a window/ canopy still while trying to maintain control In the history of aviation the amount of people killed by an aircraft hitting them is minute compared to the amount of pilots losing control in an emergency situation Each to their own opinion I guess -

Just clip a tree on the way down, I'm sure they will hear you coming, as if we are going to have time to toot a horn, I'm sure there will be more important things to concentrate on than finding the thing and blowing it Maybe all light aircraft manufactures can fit whistles on the airframe, you won't hear them while the engine is running but you might when it's silent Pipe dreams -
They need to put pusher props on it, it couldn't look any uglier flying backwards

You must look after number 1 Nev If everyone looked after number 1 flying would be much safer Too many think it always happens to someone else Good and bad in all disciplins of flying Even the so called pro's get it wrong All part of being human I guess

Ultralight plane the Daily Telegraph says Hmmm looks like a Piper Warrior or Archer to me but what would I know . Media needs to get someone involved in aviation to make the reports -
Trying too crashley At his stage what is on the shire website is redundant, it is going to be hashed out between the council and the hangar owners/ user groups at a later date What is on the website should be removed, no landing fee's currently at WSL or YRM

Thanks Bob Daughter loved it as it was her turn she says for my Facebook profile picture, the 2 elder girls have had their turn, was lovely flying today, got about 3.7 hrs in all told in my plane and was a pax for about 40 mins in a Foxbat Lovely day for aviation
