    Last century while driving my VR commodore on a quiet country road there was a loud bang and shock wave. Stopped and found a 200mm x 50mm piece of metal had penetrated the rear foot well. As a truck driver I instantly recognized it as coming from a 8.25r22 steel truck rim. The front tyre of the VR must have kicked it up and presented it at the perfect angle. Fortunately no one was in the back. My thoughts are continuing to drive with punctured, blown tyres is not acceptable. Well done to the camera person. It would be nice if there were many many more places for trucks to pull over.

    The tacho on a Rotax 582 is driven from a single coil in the alternator, there are 8 other coils to generate electricity. A permanent magnet spins around the out side motorcycle style.

    Facthunter, every experienced thinking pilot is always aware of the energy state of their aircraft and what control input is needed to increase or reduce said energy state for the next whatever time frame of flight. I don't think that is what they were talking about in the video. As I said they did not explain the concept.

    After watching the vid a second time, one theme appeared to be "control energy". They did not explain this concept. Have been flying for 39 years now and it is a new one for me, perhaps it means FLY CORRECT AIRSPEED. Who knows. Except for broken aircraft or really freaky weather (both rare) loss of control on takeoff, climb and in the circuit occurs due to insufficient airspeed or insufficient control input, it really is that simple.

    Just releasing the stick to recover from an INTENTIONAL stall is fine, you the pilot have your head in the game. If the aircraft stalls due to the pilots total lack of situational awareness then a positive push forward is warranted, it needs to be an instinctive response, no disadvantage getting light in the seat. I have been chipped by instructors during AFR's for being to aggressive during stall recovery, each to there own I guess.

    A very good summary Apename, I was thinking very much the same things as I watched it. I described it as being OK in another thread, that was too generous.

    I wonder if the jabiru engine would have had less issues if fitted with a Marvel Schebler manual mixture control carburetor. Full rich for takeoff and climb, lean mixture for 75% power or less. Seems to work for Lycoming and Continental.

    Jack, I think you will find almost no difference in the way experimental and certified aircraft are regulated and maintained in Australia compared to the USA. The same AD's and manufacturer service bulletins are used in both countries. USA maintenance shops I see on YouTube do all the same stuff we do here. Cessna SIDS for private ops was an anomaly but that has gone now.

    Pilots are able to replace batteries, not saying that is what happened here. If the backup batteries were connected with reverse polarity it would surely appear as a warning on the EFIS in the same way as low voltage on the main or backup battery, alternator or backup alternator not charging etc.

    The first vid was ok, lots of wishy washy talk that might be confusing for new pilots. The words "rotate speed" and "best climb speed" were not used once.

    There is this one from Airbus, they made a lot of flights into and out of Afghanistan along with the C130 recently.

    Hopefully the idea of rotating at the speed called for in the POH will get a mention. Positive control by the pilot, not raise the nose wheel and the aircraft will fly when it is ready BS. A departure stall will mess up your day especially in high performance aircraft.

    Might not see any on the lot, there is a 6-8 month wait for the new GR86 or BRZ now with 2.4l boxer. Last of the light weight, manual transmission, rear wheel drive cars.

    I have a car on order that is available in near identical form from Subaru and Toyota. The Subaru has a full size spare, the Toyota which costs about 2k more for the same spec has a can of "mobility foam", would not be much fun with a wrecked tyre on a dark night. I hope all the pot holes get fixed before April '23.

    Having an external wire clip securing the vital clamp nut seems less than ideal.

    Sudden increase in turbo boost was to much for the track conditions. Early model with no traction control or traction control turn off, experienced driver would have been able to execute a nice drift. Dashcam videos are educational in the same way as aircraft accident reports, they allow us to see what really causes accidents.
