My reply seems to have gone missing in the site transfer.

 

No, not French, but it is European. Three models, 1 and 2 were wood and fabric, 3 was metal. First flew in 1965.

 

And here are a couple of extra clues. The makers name contains an umlaut (two dots over a letter), and drop one letter from the makers name and it becomes a common swear word.

That's no help...we don't know no swear words..............(
