Just a little thread to ask who amongst us Aviators is also a Freemason?I was initiated into Heather Lodge No.221 UGLQ at the age of 21...

Are you or do you know of any other Freemasons within Ra-AUS?

Where are all these freemasons? I had 16,000 bricks laid a couple of years ago and they know how to charge ...a lot. I wish I knew the freemasons were around then. I'd probably be building my plane now.

How would you feel if you had a problem with say... the Committee for your Child's day care and say that half a dozen or so of those committee members were Freemasons? Would it affect your perception of their judgement and impartiality?

This thread could become very interesting.....

Secret hand shakes and frightened goats.......most of all that from what I understand is pretty much non event now. The freemasons tends to be rotary on steroids as a networking club. I am not saying this is a bad thing at all but from my experience in what I have seen with some of my family and relatives being in a "lodge" its a help your mate out sort of thing now rather than anything too subvertive

The answer to that question for me would depend on if its a secret society or wether its something that is disclosed without any issue.

If its OK to ask if someone is, and then its Ok for them to answer if they are, and then its Ok for me to ask if their decisions were in anyway influenced and its then Ok for them to answer truthfully then I have no issue.

If its Not Ok to ask, or its not Ok to answer then I cant see why we would want any part of it? Let them and their business be constrained to their organisation. I'd be pretty sure they wouldn't want RAAus members driving agenda's in their meetings so why would the reverse be true?

Ultimately if we have a board of 13 members then each should be able to operate as their conscience and members they represent (perhaps I have those around the wrong way from a precedence perspective) dictate. The moment that a subgroup of the 13 operate to another agenda that is secretive or not disclosed them Im absolutely against that. If we were to have a scenario where a manager was managing a subordinate who withint the masons was higher than the manager and that was in some way either overt or covert brought to bear then I'd be pretty P'd off.

I am not part of and have no knowledge of the freemasons. Flying however, I know a little bit about that!

Very interesting what comments/opinions come from the uninformed who think they are informed.

We'll dont leave us all in suspense......if you are informed, then best you inform! if what Ive said is wrong then tell me how and why and I'll correct it!

Unfortunately, organisations that have a history of being very private and even secretive will attract some attention as people try to fill in the blanks for themselves. Scientology could also be an example, and these days it seems RA-Aus the most secretive of them all.......

It's not hard.. just be on the level with everything you do and everyone you speak with.

Trouble is, sometimes you can't see the bubble for the mortar, or the truth because of all the BS!

Nup, sorry, not a Freemason, although was asked many times to join.

If you were a mason, you'd be flying some kind of brick Yes? I stopped to get some free range eggs at a farmhouse . The lying b==tards wanted to charge for them. Deceptive.. Nev

I'm sure there's some "truth-in-advertising" consumer legislation that you could have quoted and you may have walked away with a dozen chicken ova for free 065_evil_grin.gif.2006e9f40863555e5894f7036698fb5d.gif

My dad would have liked me to join the Freemasons, but I couldn't ride the goat long enough.OME

That is probrably only because you wore satin pyjamas, goats are slippery enough to ride without making it hard for yourself!

My grandfather and several uncles on my mothers side were masons, I remember visiting Granny on sundays as a small child trying on Grandfathers kid leather apron out of his black lodge bag that we weren't allowed to touch.

Our local lodge had to close because the membership died out, the one new recruit they had just couldn't keep being the master, year after year.

I'm not one, and I can't see where this line of reasoning is heading. I have been more excluded/ discriminated against by (some) catholics during my time on this planet . I only mention that in passing. Some of my best friends have been catholics. Nobody who has run for a board position has made anything of belonging to a lodge and no-one has ever asked any Candidate that question. Secret/ specialist societies that extend privileges to members probably always exist. To be a member of the RAAus gives you privileges that you don't get otherwise. We wear funny caps and sunglasses and big watches etc.. Nev

I can't really see the relevance of this thread .. What does it matter if you're a Freemason or not ? .. I could have joined "the Craft " some years ago , my neighbour was a Mason , however , after being invited to a few social events and being told " you have to ask us , we can't invite you " , I soon decided that it wasn't for me . I think I'll just stick to wearing the apron at the BBQ and the regalia for parties thank you very much ..
