  1. I have seen and spoken to the deceased pilot many times. He used to unload the Gyro next to my hangar at Tyabb. He was, it has been written, on his way to Tooradin from Tyabb. . Which would take him directly over Canons creek if you're flying in a straight line. I fly a semi circle over that bit of the coast at 1200 plus feet as it is VERY inhospitable with extensive mudflats and mangrove marshes. Not somewhere to make a successful forced landing and I never saw any power lines at my height.... It's a shame he didn't do the same. I have spoken to him about his very advanced and fast Gyro...but never saw him perform a low level circuit....What a shame.......
  2. my cooking class calls
  3. whilst working on your engine no doubt
  4. Keenserts are very, very thin walled inserts and have a plug sealing ridge on the top (Top Hat shape) so there is no problem with plug sealing. just tap the hole (dont forget to chamfer the top of the hole slightly) and put them in with loctite hot retaining compound. I'm pretty sure I have all you need here. I'll have a look if you wish?
  5. Precisely....................I did say who in their right mind..!
  6. Goodness, This HAS to be the site for mis-information and false rumour... I said that well designed 6's don't have crank problems, and I just read "Yeah, but they are all very short strokes, very low cc's." so 1300 is very low? About the same as a Rotax? and whilst on my soap box. The Kawasaki 6 WAS NOT a short stroke engine. In actual fact it was/is a long stroke motor, so were many other 6's mentioned.... Just keep the conjecture to a minimum and rely on facts PLEASE. and anyway what's the stoke /bore ratio got to do with anything? We are talking about geared motors are we not?......Who in their right mind ( Except Bec s) would market a direct drive engine nowadays?....
  7. True, I am able to carry a full load of fuel (130ltrs) plus about 100 kgs of baggage.....What was that about lady hitch hikers?
  8. You gotta be kidding? That's Bullsh^t ......My wife's Lexus GS300 has one of the best straight sixes ever made. Can be made to rev it's tits off @ about 1000hp. (turbo-ed of course) . The six from Nissan was in the beasties that blew everyone into the weeds at Mount Panorama. Didn't see any "long and twisty " cranks breaking then ( except in the Holdens and Fords) ....Oh excuse me, I forgot the Honda CB 1000 and the Kwaka Z1300 (120hp) both with 8500 or so rev limits ...The Benelli six reved higher. No cranks breaking there either.... Design it properly in the first place. A 3 cyl (120 degree crank ) is like a turbine...Get your facts straight....please
  9. Really, What did Rotec say about the problem?
  10. the real one was soooo much better..............
  11. but I like it anyway, I like single seaters, I have a 2 seater that I fly on my own 99% of the time, I wonder if they"ll swap?....
  12. what a nice looking aeroplane, pity about the wheels.
  13. I was just reading on the Jodel forum of a bloke who recently finished a Diesel Jodel, an ecofly I believe, lives in NZ. all's well and he is very pleased with the result. I'll post his name as soon as I find it
  14. Geoff , well done on getting to the ground safely, But a couple of questions spring to mind.......................... 1. How was is that an electrical dead short occurred? and 2 . What was the fuse (main or pump) doing while your aeroplane was catching fire? ....Just wondering
  15. ok , so ethanol/petrol does not actually damage the engine, raises the octane rating, BUT can cause the engine to be damaged as a secondary effect. ...IF you have an ethanol proof fuel delivery system then no harm should come to your engine. ( like my car) I realise that freezing ect can rear it's ugly head, but that should become obvious if/when it happened........I was concerned as I regularly use 95 octane and that could, accidentally, become contaminated with ethanol..Maybe too small an amount for my ethanol/water check....
  16. I'm not sure how 10% ethanol can "damage" a motor. It (ethanol) raises the detonation point ie., raises the octane rating. it is agroscopic so there's no water sitting on the bottom of your tank corroding it away..I saw it mentioned that it's a solvent. I know you can thin epoxy before it's cured with methanol, apart from that it's about as good as Turps as a solvent. It will make some rubber types gooey but will not affect efi tubing ect.I have a motorcycle mag which explains why you have to change old caby floats and tubing of 60's bikes. ...Can anybody inform us how a motor is actually damaged by it?.....
  17. Try a Jodel, there cannot be a more benign tail dragger to fly and land, even I can do it!....
  18. For a start we have to stop using the word "accident" There are no "accidents" .........Only incidents with negative outcomes..Accident implies that no-one is, or can be help responsible........ Someone is always at fault.....Somewhere , Somehow. A regulation has been ignored or taken too lightly or someone is just being stupid, flying too low, in cloud, poor weather check, insufficient fuel, badly maintained aircraft, there is a cause somewhere. And as long as your arse points downwards somebody will be taking extra risks. Occasionally that type of person will get caught out and pay the price. I admit it's a lot to pay for a "bit of a lark "................... a little disobedience goes a long way and echoes for a long time. So stop expecting nil fatalities, not going to happen....
  19. Parkinson's disease is awful, Sometimes my hands shake so much...Makes cleaning bathroom tiles a doddle though. Which turns out to be a good thing, as there's piss everywhere!

  20. Dear Mr. Camel , Pull your head in.....Thank you
  21. hmmmmm................ Someone should put Shine and co., right on points one and two. They look like normal RAA operating procedures to me....
  22. Quote"...Your paper copy however can only be in one place at a time."..... So it's not all negatives, there are positives that need to be considered as well in my opinion."................... There's a job waiting for you with a politician as a Spin Doctor" We lose the mag. Have to take our desktops in to the Lav for a bit of a browse. Get a price rise by stealth and are told ......................." You are so much better off now ".............. Smacks of that pommiebastard prime minister who told us "You have never been had so good"
  23. I'm going to have a look.....
  24. there's a video of the take off run on you tube. It looks nasty, downhill on snow skis , at the end crossing a ski slope and chair lift area before a row of tall pines, Good luck with that....
  25. I LIKE getting the mag. ... I have it around for months before donating to the dentist, doctor, pizza bar, ect., Would I read it online over and over? Absolutely not. It's a bloody shame. I feel hard done by....
