'This is war': Professor says immediate lockdown will stop the spread of virus

Professor Crabb said a lockdown would apply to schools. “I would have thought that it’s pretty logical until we know better to assume schools were potentially significant sources of community transmission”.

Remember that the current figures are actually 7-10 days out of date, given the incubation period. We have not a second to waste.

There's what, 4 posts asking after me in a year? I seem to be as popular as a man at a Feminist Convention wearing a strap on dildo.   But I am highly unimpressed with mostly Murdoch's lies

Ah, there is the problem. Pushups. I never do them. Better to stress your heart with a good Cabernet Sauvignon.   Good to hear from you Bex.

what may not survive is the extremely leveraged corporate economy dominated by huge corporations with very little empathy for workers or national tax obligations. Good riddance.

A few of them have already closed the doors!

Thousands out of work.

Bring on the socialist DEPRESSION!

Morrison is WRONG.

For all your bleating, you forget that the PM banned all flights from and through China early on, and was one of the first Leaders, along with the British PM, to do so, late Jan starting Feb 1st. It was those actions that is the reason why Britain and Australia's numbers are still quite low.

I agree with go hard, it worked here in China, but he PM, and note I respectfully use his proper title, did good early on.

Blah, blah, blah - people are dying, people are worried, it's just not the time for this political crap is it, just be quiet hey.

This is interesting. (And by the way - when politics conflicts with the best available scientific advice, it is still time to talk about politics.)

The take-away points are, the states are going far harder than the commonwealth because both schools and hospitals are mainly state responsibilities, whereas unemployment is the responsibility of the commonwealth.

So Morrison restricts weddings to 5 people because the celebrant gets paid whether the crowd is 5 or 50, but pump instructors get paid per client which is why they're allowed 10.

Still not sure why hairdressing is an essential service.

I reckon that the government should restrict itself to providing information for all of us and protective equipment for front-line workers . This would mean a higher death-rate for stupid people. Good idea says me.

My daughter phoned a marriage celebrant today (she is a friend) during the talk my daughter said the people limit suited perfect as when they set a date a while ago her partners family was excited and 70 extras on there side self invited themselves. People my daughter and her partner do not really know. It'll suit my budget having to pick up the drinks bill. The celebrant thought the booking inquiry was good as she had been getting calls from disappointed bookings due to the reduced. This is a true story. If it actually happens some of the drinks will be Corona's.

Yep and should be some left over. I hope it works for her. The invitations are sitting at home here from the previous date. It was amazing how the extras spooked them and they were in a spot not to offend this extended family. I think her partners dad might request they wait. I recon they elope. It is a true story.

and note I respectfully use his proper title,

Please don't think that I am guilty of any less respect than many, both in and out of the media, who still refer to previous PMs as "Gillard" & "Rudd".

Australians, most of you are cretins.

I just watched Seven National News for today (26/3/20), as far as I can see NO ONE in Australia other than some handfuls are taking this seriously.

Just one of a hundred examples I gasped at, Queensland Police checking cars at the NSW Border no face masks on, leaning on people's car doors into their open windows, begeezus what is wrong with you lot? Idiot cop leans on doors, breathes in or touches germs, then transfers it to the hundreds of next cars they stop, besides the Cop being infected.

Every News Reader/reporter, not one with a face mask on, not one person I saw on the streets, again I point out Police specifically talking to people in the streets, who are prime transferer's.

Not one single Minister or other Leaders, and clearly not the PM.

Every single person you saw on TV in China during this had a mask on, from the PM, the Ministers, the News Readers (yes, reading the news with masks on), the Reporters, every single person on the streets being interviewed, it's called "Leading by Example".

2 of my Daughters in Brisbane with a rotten colds, as is my Grandson, no not the virus, but they are at high risk, and then i see this crap that they are surrounded by, and I am pizzed ....

One of my Australian mates on Facebook has been saying the PM Morrison will kill thousands by his lack of action, now I realise what he's on about.

Yeah, so good luck with that.

I think its closer to 30% in Australia who just can't comprehend; you only have to look at this site with the people who think we are talking about something like the flu, and ridicule anyone trying to help them.

The reason no one had masks was that we ran out before the real crisis hit.

Health workers (nurses and doctors) have been wearing the same masks and clothes for multiple shifts, and the union had started to step in when the first shipment arrived, but that is just going to emergency workers.

So the National Cabinet adopted a policy of only people who had tested positive needed masks.

Then those Cops shouldn't be working that car check duty, period.

I can get container loads of masks to anybody who wants them, 3 suppliers, zero profiteering.

Masks are useful for keeping others safe when you yourself have a cough or sneeze. If you're healthy, they're a waste of resources. Many people of Asian extraction wear them here, but then again they did so before the virus too. Had to laugh today - one bloke had one on in Coles then as soon as he's in the car park, pulls it down and lights a ciggy.

Most shops now have lines taped on the floor 1.5m apart for people to queue at. No restaurants or cafes doing sit down, take away only. They also have a notice on the door about how many people are allowed inside.

Can't speak for others but my hands have never been so clean. Following WHO standards of hand washing, not touching hard surfaces that others touch, I even use a paper towel to open the fridge at work.

Despite what you're seeing on the TV we're not all idiots.

Masks ... If you're healthy, they're a waste of resources.

... we're not all idiots.

Good luck with that contradiction.

If you really think China has stopped it in it's tracks, and Sth Korea greatly 'flattening the curve' wasn't in some part to EVERYBODY wearing masks, then glad you don't live in a busy city area to put others at risk with your thinking.

Like many Americans and Australians, you haven't seen this first hand, and you have no idea what's coming.

France are now using their bullet trains to spread out patients from the heaviest hit areas where hospitals are way past breaking point. Clearly these all just are words to some of you.

Health professionals are still saying if you are healthy a Mask is of little use. If someone coughs at you there are gaps where airborne particles can get through and they do not cover all of your face anyway. For those without the disease the benefit is psychological both for the wearer and the person(s) you are next to. If you have the diseases (you should be isolated) or just any sort of sore throat, cough etc you definitely should wear a mask. Face Masks not recommended for healthy individuals

In Japan is is normal practice for anyone with a cold or flu to wear a mask as a matter of courtesy, and probably the same for China.

In China the poliy was to wear them to optimise the immune system for when the virus hit, and that has worked well.

We didn't have the masks, so we didn't have the option.

Queensland Council elections are still going ahead tomorrow. WTF? That is just as smart as all the cops leaning into cars on the border telling people they can't come. Their message "Voters are responsible for their own safety". They are also saying "Bring your own pencil". How many will do that? QLD Health say it will be safer than going to the Supermarket, but going to the Supermarket is not compulsory. When asked if the election could be postponed they have said it is too late to postpone them now. What utter BS.

Beggars belief. A week ago Queensland was way behind NSW and Victoria for cases, but it's been rocketing up hour by hour and may pass Victoria, which has more medical capacity, today.

Australians, most of you are cretins

G'day Bex, I wrote in a post days ago:

With policies such as maintaining that hair cutting is a national imperative it is tempting to believe that the Morrison govt wants to see continued spread of coronavirus among the people.

Many thousands are going to die because, by stealth I believe, This place is being subjected to the failed policy of herd immunity. Pentacostalism is a death cult.

Keep well all who take this dire emergency seriously.

Local news last night mentioned all distilleries have stopped making spirits and are working three shifts making hand sanitiser. I am ok with that. When life hands you lemons, change recipes.

Sorry for the thread drift Bex. This really is _comedy gold_.
