  1. I could never understand the bogey-man hysteria about running engines on reg gas? Plenty of Lyc/Conty's are running on bogey-man gas??
  2. Risky contraptions. I always wanted to drive Helo's but when I got involved in A/C maint I soon changed my mind! RIP, sudden death is traumatic for so many left behind!?
  3. Spot on! The normal annual will not find such corrosion hence I had my tanks pulled! It's a well known problem in Pipers just like the now worrying spars on the cantilevered Cessnas.
  4. I think the bigger issue here is whilst flying along in yr PAxx knowing there is an issue with spars of the type in general is I wonder what my spar condition is like?? The second plane I ever bought was a PA28-140 but before I handed over the $$$$ I had the tanks removed and the interior gutted, cost me a few dollars but I sleep better at night!
  5. Now where did I see that Vans 4sale refugees entry? I recall the protruding '6pack' panel?
  6. Oh I wonder what the beeping sound is the driver was thinking as he suddenly realises he was about to join the gear up club!? Talk about a space shuttle arrival! Just goes to show the panic that set in and he near forgot to fly the plane!
  7. There a few EFIS system displays for yr Mob PH or tablet via the App Store, I have one on the Mob PH and Tablet just in case the zillion to one chance that the cockpits I was flying in went blank at night out over the Pacific! Obviously not to be used in anger but a free 'get-out-of-jail' card if you killed a Chinaman!
  8. 200 HP whether being produced by an Otto cycle or a squirrel cage with a 1000 large rats in it or a fancy turbine is still 200HP going to the prop. The trick is how much squirrel food do you need to feed it to get that 200HP??? I used to enjoy the reliability of the turbines I operated but was glad I wasn't paying for them!?
  9. I'd say it's not done as a lot of RA machines don't have any inst to ref in IMC where as a lot of cert GA did/have.
  10. I've always felt not enuf training is spent on unusual attitudes demonstration & recovery. A monkey can fly a plane when it's all going well that's the easy part it's getting 'unstuck' from where that demon lives out there in the sky!
  11. Man that's got some serious delamination going on there, sad?
  12. You where quick on the 'edit' button....lololol
  13. Close, 2x 185 HP donks...lolol I guess the I-Mach rego gave it away???
  14. I wish you well in your undertakings, won't be easy as I'm sure you know, plenty of 'challenges' for you and the end user, hope you can sell enuf to make it viable?
  15. Once cheap airfares hit the skies that spelt the deathnell of coaches and the museum sadly. Went there many time for a sticky beak when I was on the job?
  16. 200 gee gee's in an Otto cycle uses around 60-70 ltrs of gas per Hr. Will be interesting to see what 200 gee gee's produced from a turbine uses? Small GA planes mostly operate blw 10K, an environment not ideal for thirsty turbines.
  17. The way I look at VG's is that if you need them in order to operate in and or out of a strip then you are living on the edge! If it's a few knots between running out of a Rwy or not then you are an accident waiting to happen! I used to drive a PA31 with VG's which gave you a greater MTOW but to me it was just an excuse to cram more in!
  18. Stall warning devices are or should be set to activate approx 5kts above the stall speed and remember the published Vs is the minimum speed at which the plane is still fully controllable. A plane with a stall speed of 50 kts should still fly at 50kts, 49 kts it's done and dusted??
  19. Mini PT6? At the end if the day it all boils down to $$$$$?
  20. It's a well known common issue with the Bing carby's on the Rotax I know of a few (inc the one I fly reg) that have been problematic and the Net is full of info about these problem child's!
