  1. My point was that there have been GA pilots caught out by the low inertia, high drag aircraft like Drifters where an instant response to loss of power is required. Some RA aircraft are easy to convert on, others less so. I am not an instructor, but I imagine the five hour rule takes the pressure and liability concerns off them in the many cases where more than an hour or two of conversion is required.
  2. I guess they had to make a general rule. The Gazelle is probably the easiest plane to fly on the register, and there are some particularly challenging ones. As I recall the 5 hours was mostly solo for me, I don't remember paying dual rates for that.
  3. There are a lot of posts on the web about Rotec engine problems. As an Aussie I prefer not to believe many of them.
  4. My understanding is that this has rudder control through a unique arrangement of the control column. The Ercoupe had no rudder control by the pilot, but it was linked to the ailerons. Others may know more!
  5. Depends on whether the ground beneath is freehold title or is a lease. If freehold it is the same as buying a house or commercial property. If a lease, you buy the physical construction but must continue paying the ground lease. There may be a requirement for prior approval of the transaction by the lessor, and there will be a need for lease transfer documentation.
  6. Maybe it was this guy. We have been warned about the French.
  7. M'aidez!
  8. If so, he lasted about two minutes in IMC, more or less as we are told.
  9. The current structure is appropriate for the organisation. There were several limitations of the previous structure, well described at the time we voted.
  10. One track, your example of barring down means something to me, I have been there and done that and had my mate hit by a falling stone. He was walking up the rill and I shouted but he didn’t hear me. He couldn’t work as a miner again.
  11. New chairman Mark Binskin has military aviation experience way back . His interests are camping, motor sports, dancing and motorcycle riding. New CEO Pip Spence is a woman with no aviation experience at all. here we go again!
  12. Do autopilots have an offset function, say 200m to the right, when following a track?
  13. The important pat of Thruster88s quote is that : Under those regulations, all current pilots must have an aviation security status check. You will also need an aviation security status check if are applying for a flight crew licence.
  14. My old DCA blue logbook fell apart eventually and the cloth covering came away from the cardboard.
  15. It is not optional for GA pilots, must have ASIC or Avid.
  16. People have varying eyesight ability, or visual acuity. Some can see a speck in the distance, others not. When people argue in favour of see and avoid, they do not acknowledge this. Anything that can help should be embraced.
  17. The review of this aircraft in the latest Sport Pilot is interesting, the plane sounds great. Am I right in thinking that a 17:1 glide ratio will make it quite sensitive to turbulence due low wing loading?
  18. The video showing testing of the Mars Ingenuity chopper seems to show one rotor going the wrong way. I wonder if this was deliberate or the reason for the delay.
  19. Coincidentally I had just watched this.
  20. The symptoms are the same as I had with a Microair some years back, there was slight contact in the soldered joint in the antenna connector.
  21. Try browing the archives for lots of funnies. https://www.chickenwingscomics.com/
  22. This has been very interesting to me both for aviation and motorcycle engines. Thanks everyone.
  23. That’s so cruel, with his dad not yet in the ground.:)
  24. Sidney Cotton invented the Sidcot flying suit in 1917. It was so popular that the Red Baron was wearing a purloined one when he was shot down. Later Amy Johnson wore one.
  25. I had just written an item about Australian aviation inventions for our aero club newsletter, I missed Warren and Grant. But they missed Sidney Cotton and Alf Traeger, who made the flying doctor possible.
