  1. The stories of people saving machine tools really inspire me. I am fortunate to live near Castlemaine Vic where there are many businesses running with old machines that allow us to get almost anything repaired or reproduced. I recently discovered another such workshop full of specialist machines that has been less than 10km from me for 25 years. Even more important, we have people who know how to use them.
  2. Hope the vacuum is regulated. As an eight or nine year old I was sharing a bath with a friend when camping in an old house. It had a suction hose lying in the bath, through a hand pump, to the shower head. He put his Willy experimentally into the hose and I pumped like blazes, he squealed!
  3. Old cars, old motorbikes, and the history of mining in Australia.
  4. I check the site several times a day and must admit there is les that interests me than there was a couple of years back. Don’t know why.
  5. And check the various camera positions each requiring a camera man
  6. An excellent podcast series from the BBC World Service - Spitfire: The People’s Plane, Introducing Spitfire: The People’s Plane
  7. Any excuse to stay inside by the fire.
  8. Why would CASA issue this July 9 for comments by July 20? It has been out for months from FAA. Very few aircraft will meet the factored service hours test and need the inspection.
  9. The phone AH app would be useful if all else failed.
  10. That problem canardly be fixed with duct tape.
  11. Thanks for renewing my memories of a visit at about that time. I also remember seeing the Silver City VH-ABH at a fly in in Ballarat in the early 1980s, it was beautiful.
  12. I did that unusual attitude training, under the hood too, when Gough Whitlam was PM so I can't add anything.
  13. I have often wondered whether you could recover if you lost control in a cloud and emerged in a vertical dive at cruise speed in a non-aerobatic plane, say a PA28 or C172. Could you pull back to straight and level without destroying the airframe by excessive G or by overspeed?
  14. I ordered a new Bendix drive for my 1932 starter motor on line recently. Plenty of stock available.
  15. Today I received my refund for the Oshkosh flights, five months after it was paid and four months after it was cancelled by Qantas. Hooray. It came into the Westpac credit card account that I paid from originally. Westpac will now charge me $150 to transfer it back into my bank account.
