1. This is assuming they have a transponder and it's turned on. I like a second pair of eyes helping me. My partner is excellent at picking up aircraft that I miss, well miss seeing not miss hitting. Coming back into Sydney through the training area into Camden it's good but there can be a lot of warnings as you can imagine. That's when I turn off the audible warning.
2. My PCAS definitely has ghosting. Can initially give you a jolt as there seems to be an aircraft way to close for comfort. Been thinking of getting an external aerial for it but not sure how much difference that will make. Mine appears on my skyview so it's easier to spot than reading a little screen. Working on the sound part as well.
3. My Jab isn't that old but I would like to replace the strobe and landing light with LED. I would love to replace the strobe as the radio is affected by all this power drain. I guess having the skyview helps the drain as well.
4. I do like using a transponder, Radar has been good when there is a potential traffic conflict like the other day over Katoomba. I was in Class G and they called me up to say the was another aircraft converging. I like lights as well, if I can be a christmas tree I would since it can be damn hard to spot other aircraft at times. I always use my strobe when approaching aerodromes. I need to learn more about my TCAS, I tend to have a ghost quite often, almost expecting an aircraft to appear under me or next to me. Aren't you supposed to have the transponder over 5000ft anyway?
5. But with the new glass cockpits you can set alarms and it's a glmpse to see the gauges.
6. Been talking to a few people and I'm going to try this this weekend. Choke on with fuel pump. Give it a quick crank to prime and turn off choke and try and start. I have a terrible time even in Sydney to start. I think the choke just floods the engine.
7. Thanks, didn't see that until I zoomed in on the photo.
8. I guess speculation doesn't beat fact but my first thoughts about the photo was maybe they did a touch and go and didn't retract the flaps from full and maybe stalled. Look how much flap there is. I know there has been a discussion about flaps on take-off. I have a J230 and I'm very conscious of this as the 230 has incredible lift.
9. Instead of getting the Dynon GPS you might be able to save money and connect your output of your GPS via NMEA to the skyview and use that for both. You don't have to have a Dynon GPS as far as I know. I purchased the Dynon GPS and will get it installed on the 25 hourly. Don't want to do it myself. I'll get the sensors a little later. As for lovely Jabiru, they don't seem to understand the requirement of the skyview. When I picked up my J230, the look on their faces when I said where was the GPS and it wasn't till I got back that I discovered the lack of sensors. I emailed the distributor in Horsham and he isn't impressed either. Another thing, when I pulled the dash to look behind, one of the cables FELL of the mag switch. It was pretty loose, that's my next job. Anyway, besides that, seeing the Jab and picking it up was amazing. Great plane to fly as well. It's just a pity they couldn't complete the deal with a completely satisfied customer. Felt let down by their replies to this situation.
10. I guess if someone has a recent J230D with their weight and balance we can compare. I like the fact I can glance quickly and get all the info in one spot where as with steam gauges I would have to scan a wider distance which means your eyes are in the cockpit for longer.m With the bugs it also easier to maintain heading though I think the aircraft is easier than a J160 for that.
11. I'm still going to have a second GPS because the Moving Map in the Skyview is basic and difficult to add the flight plan. I use another GPS with PocketFMS and can change flight plans while I'm flying, go to nearest, see boundaries etc etc. Dynon will be releasing software for flight plans for about USD$500 and I don't know what the yearly update fee will be. Maybe one day it might be good but at this stage not as good as an external GPS.
12. No clients today, just working developing databases at the moment. I need the breaks...
13. Rant alert!! It is beautiful, so clear and easy to view while flying. Heaps easier to read that the previous dynons. No, Jabiru in their wisdom didn't think I needed the Dynon GPS and therefore a lot of the functionality doesn't work. I have that now and just need to install it. Second one was that Jabiru decided I only needed 2 sensors for the CHT and cut off the extra cables. I asked why didn't they put in for all cylinders and they said they can do that and that will cost... Why didn't they just do that during the build. I was bitterly unhappy with such a capable device been dumbed down. Just discovered a couple of weeks ago you can produce a flight plan to Google Maps in PocketFMS and there is a little conversion from a Dynon app and I can upload that. Pity I don't have the GPS yet and Jabiru cut off the USB cable due to interference with the radio. There are 2 USB ports on the back so I will work out a simple way of plugging in a stick. What I especially like is the simplicity in changing the bugs. I'm upgrading to a PPL and it makes it simple since I'm not allowed to use the GPS.
14. added to iPad I added the PDF to my iPad and makes it so easy to read. Actually I added all the Visual Flight Guides, the POH for my aircraft and anything else I could find useful. It's all in one place to take anywhere.
15. Does anyone know of any hangarage around Sydney? I am looking at parking my new J230. Been doing some flying at The Oaks and now at Camden upgrading to a PPL so I can fly to a few more airports. Thanks
16. 3 weeks to go My new skyview in the Jabiru 230. Getting closer. Just hope one day PocketFMS will be able to upload to it.
17. Last I heard from Jabiru they were still working on the details and pricing. They will be starting the production soon so hopefully they work it out soon. I'll follow up asap...
18. It's going to be factory built. They don't have a price list yet, waiting for that but when I talked to them at Natfly they were working on an installation. Saw the demo unit at natfly and was impressed. I also sent a note on the forum for PocketFMS and they MIGHT be creating an upload for their flight planning software. Can't wait, just have to make sure I fly the plane.
19. I'll tell you in August when I get mine in a J230...
20. Thanks, found the option. Just didn't look hard enough. I use PocketFMS normally.
21. telstra Sorry, I shouldn't have left you guessing. The previous post is right. I pay a huge premium for it to just work everywhere and well. Not just in the country area and the air but Sydney as well. I have friends on other providers that have troubles and I can't even get Optus in my flat which was the reason for swapping over. It's just sad Telstra always make it seem you are getting a good deal but all you're getting is better coverage which for me was what I needed. My business runs from my phone. Other apps I use. (I have a page on the phone just for aviation) Aeroweather - not bad but for some reason doesn't pick up Bankstown Flightplan - Really is a toolbox but I haven't really used it iE6B - Haven't really used it CoPilot - pretty good for a quick flight plan. As long as it picks up weather AirCheck - great for checklists and you can make them up on the web to be shared Nav Clock - Very nice zulu clock with some weather V-Cockpit - nice gadget like iHud NAIPS - great for weather and lodging iHud - very nice but I think I will rely on the Dynon Air Nav Pro - An alternative to CoPilot but no maps :( Windfinder - mainly for sailing but nice anyway Car Finder (if you've lost your airplane) :laugh
22. quick radar Talking of the iPhone, my friend had his with Optus and I with Telstra. Guess who had the best reception most of the way. Last October flying back to Sydney from Ballarat There were some dirty storms brewing so I pulled out the iPhone and had a saved bookmark on my home screen and checked the BOM radar while flying, Very handy. Turned to Temora and stayed the night. Got to see Temora for my first time and hopefully again at easter.

Brumby A/C

story on the brumby The Brumby | This guy was interviewed on the plane Crazy Downunder podcast.
24. CTA I think the talk was on Tuesday and they got the announcement wrong on Friday over the PA. Why Thursday? I thought most people would be there on the Friday and that would be a better day for such an important issue. Anyway, I'm disappointed by the delay since Hoxton Park was closed and the school went to a GAAP airport so my closest airport is ages away.
25. I wonder how this compares to PocketFMS. I've been using FMS for a while but I like your screen shots, they seem more useful than FMS.
