As much as I dislike CASA I think it would be foolish of us to demand more be done here. At the end of the day self reporting is a whole let better for us as pilots than a huge heavy handed approach. Do we seriously want ourselves to be hauled over the coals every time we do a mistake? For sure wheels up landings that are operator error shouldn't happen but I too am human so I won't be throwing too many stones.

It is possible. As for the first 25hour thingy, I think if you have just built the plane and if you have no other flying experience it would be wise to get someone with more experience to fly those 25hours off anyway. After that what better experience would there be than learning to fly in the plane you built yourself! -
Have another squiz ome. At the 2 second mark the car starts to apply his brakes AND indicates the lane change, the truckie doesn’t acknowledge this until the 9 second mark. If 7 seconds is the reaction time you expect from someone who is paying attention I would hate to see what someone who is not paying attention looks like. In our road handbooks we are recommended to keep 3 second gaps between ourselves and a car in front if we all have 7 second reaction times maybe we should revisit that. The more I look at that video the more I am of the opinion that the truckie is completely in the wrong. The car indicated the lane change AND all his brake lights were working and there was sufficient room behind him it is just a matter of the truckie not reacting in a decent timeframe to avoid the bump. The car hadn’t come to a complete stop he had only slowed significantly so I don’t think in any way has he done anything illegal.

OME I reckon with that video the car is close to cutting off territory but I still think it is not quite there. I don’t know what he was thinking (the car) but when he changed lanes there was ample room between him and the truck and it didn’t sound like the truck applied his brakes till nearly after the collision? If someone is wanting to slow down I think the sensible thing to do would be to change to the left lane but it certainly looks like this car doesn’t know where he wanted to go and is having second thoughts about the intersection.

This is the relevant 'legislation' for NSW and I believe at least Vic is worded the same. 126 Keeping a safe distance behind vehicles A driver must drive a sufficient distance behind a vehicle travelling in front of the driver so the driver can, if necessary, stop safely to avoid a collision with the vehicle. Maximum penalty: 20 penalty units.

Yes that is how it is in NSW. The person who runs into a car from behind is in the wrong unless the car in front is reversing (to park) OR deliberately cuts in front of another vehicle.

That is what my icom does as well, it doesn’t matter if someone is reciting a novel on the second frequency if someone speaks on your main frequency the main is what you get until they finish transmitting. The only transmissions that ever get interrupted are those that are coming through on your second frequency.

Increasing CTAF distance from 10-20nm while not a perfect solution I think that in itself will help reduce some of the congestion. For example in our local area there are a couple of strips that we have used where we will now be able to use our ctaf rather than area (or 126.7) However I don't really like the idea of taking more sky away from those not equipped with a radio around cert strips, I guess it would be too complicated to amend rules so that radio was only required in the inner 10nm of those strips?

That's all well and good Skippy but if I am going to be using places such as Dubbo I am not going to open myself up to huge fines it just isn't worth it. I would love to see a big boycot on asic's but knowing casa it wouldn't surprise me if their reply would be to just start policing it a lot harder and proscecute to the full extent available to them and I for one am not going to be the scapegoat to try and beat the system.

Do you actually need a passport? What sort of craziness has this all turned into?! I can produce my birth certificate easily enough but haven't had a passport since I was a kid and don't intend to get one.

Got a few pics from my Brother in law which I assume were of the mt beauty get together. That is Not my hornet but I was interested to see the air master on it.

If you aren't worried about grass and are happy with a bare black soil strip and you want to land GA aircraft there regularly I reckon a 1000 metres would be ok and any longer would be an nice bonus. As far as upkeep of a bare dirt strip goes make it the same width as your boom and keep it dosed up with roundup and preemergents and it will stay nice without too much time spent on it. Wet black soil isn't good on aircraft wheels but if you are happy with that limitation alls good. (Maybe Sus out some gravel roads close by and take note of guideposts (if lowwing) and signposts and powerlines so you can have an emergency backup if needed.)

Of course you could use it as a flying machine but it would be like grandpas axe by you were finished. An ideal rebuild project for someone with the time to spare (and money) Basically the airframe would need to be completely stripped and replace the rusty parts, then chuck some new skins and a new donk on and she would be as good as new.

Not a lot of useful load for fat people like me. But would still suffice if used as a single seater! Taking the 165knots with a grain of salt I would be happy if it could cruise at 140-150. I wonder what it’s rough air cruise is though? It would suck if that was still around 100

There was a huge thread on this site some time ago about vortex generators which would be worth a read. I will try and look it up in a minute. Leaving the middle section to stall is a thing that is done by quite a few different people. Just be careful if doing your own testing as while vg's can improve your planes performance they can also change it for the worse. for example your plane may have had a mild stall before vgs but after it may have a viscous wing drop which if unsuspected could cause trouble. What I am trying to say is just be prepared for these things. Having said that I have had only good experiences with them but that isn't always the case.
