  1. I will take the train from Sydney. I would rather fly in but i cant understand why the Airport would be closed from 1030 to 1630. Surely there could be a window after lunch to give people who want to get away, an opportunity to leave and arrive before last light? And if the weather happens to turn, then again, people would want to leave while they can. A six hour airshow is too long in my opinion. Keep it shorter and sharp to maintain the publics interest. I think that the restrictions are a disincentive to a lot of Pilots, interested in others opinions.
  2. I have the same in my Jabiru 170, fitted by Jab Factory. Very happy with it, and their is a kit available from Garmin which connects to s portable gps giving you fuel etc to next waypoint. From memory, the FS 450 cost USD $549 from Aircraft Spruce in USA
  3. I think all will be revealed later. I got my ASIC via the CASA authorized agency who i believe are st Merimbula, most GA Pilots do the same as far as i am aware. Let's wait and see!
  4. I got discounted coffee at Sunshine Coast Airport recently!....hurray for my ASIC
  5. Just for the record, CVD Pilots were not permitted to operate at night until the late 70s early eighties i can't remember the exact dates. Then came along Dr Pape, himself a CVD Pilot, who lobbied hard on behalf of the hundreds of CVD Pilots, and the restriction was overturned thus allowing CVD Pilots virtually unrestricted operations, however the highest license one could gain was CPL. So no Airline prospect.
  6. Gentlemen, I really think we need to look at the facts and not get stirred up on personal opinions. If CVD means COLOUR DEFECTIVE then you should be aware that CVD Pilots can operate at night, have COMMAND inst ratings and fly night VFR. I don't see what CVD has to do with this discussion
  7. Ian, I see no evidence of STRENGTHENING. I understand that their is a discussion paper out where they are looking at options and submissions from AOPA and RAA plus seeking info on current standards in the USA, NZ and U.K.
  8. Rich have a look at the CASA ON TRACK Website which details Class D procedures at various airports
  9. Basically correct, each Class D has its own local procedures however and the ERSA should be your point of reference
  10. And Richard, please PM me if you want clarification of YSBK procedures.
  11. At Bankstown, you may descend and join final when using Rwy 11. Inbound via 2RN you will be told to report Warwick farm and via Prospect you will normally be told to report 3 miles.
  12. Hi all Does anybody know of a reputable Company that specialises in photographing Aircraft in flight? I am in the Sydney bason and would like some shots of my Aircraft with the Opera House/ Harbour Bridge in the background.
  13. Hi Paul, before i decided on the 500 I watched the promotional videos from Sportys Pilot shop and Aircraft Spruce. They indicated that an external Antenna was not necessary, and so I had the 500 fitted in my Jab panel at a slightly offset angle whereby i could connect an external antenna if necessary. Its been in the Panel now for 18 months and I have never had a drop out. The 500 is what Garmin calls the entry level Aera, and after looking at the 500 Vs the 510, I didnt think the extra money justified the cost of the 510, for features more suited to the USA than Australia. I am more than happy with the 500, no glare issues and easy to operate. Very easy to load flight plans and the touch screen system is intuiitive. I practiced at home in Simulator mode. The external Antenna is only about $25 USD I think, and should be available from any good Pilot suppy shop, and I carry one as back up only, its never been needed. My advice would be to have a look at Aircraft Spruce and Sportys Pilot shop. The one thing to make sure is that it comes with PACIFIC data base, but with the dollar dow, it may be quicker and about the same price to purchase locally from a Pilot shop in Australia. Hope this helps.
  14. I have a Garmin Aera 500 mounted in my panel and no probs with sat reception at all
  15. Similarly, the C150 flaps extended to 40deg which caused an issue in the go around config. To. Address this, Cessna changed the setting to 30deg in the later C 152 series.
  16. Which mag are you talking about? AOPA Pilot or Sport Pilot?
  17. Hi Howard In those days the Pilot records were paper based, and would have been destroyed when the School closed.
  18. Yes i agree. I had same problem and as soon as I changed battery, problem went away. Identical issue and symptoms to what has been described.
  19. Bruce, buy yourself a good quality ANR Headset and you will never look back. Upfront high cost but worth it over time!
  20. Ray is still there but doesn't personally instruct any more. Aminta is the CFI and she does the testing.
