I didnt think there was any such thing as a stupid question! Whilst i appreciate the humour conveyed in the last responses, I thought that someone who had the same issue may be able to shed some light on why this happened. No further posts from me!

This took me by surprise! During the latter stage of a 1 hour flight, the pointer indicating 100s of ft suddenly fluctuated wildly and then settled back on the correct altitude. Correct indication on ground with local QNH set. Any ideas??

Thats exactly my set up. Works great. Ive experimented with kneeboards as well, and dont like the constricted feel of the leg strap and having to look down to see the screen. Only downside with the suction cup mount is that sometimes it falls off into my lap but hasnt happened too much,

Aro the second paragraph of your post is incorrect. I did a GA AFR on 5 Feb, my current AFR expired 31 March but CASA only renewed me till 28 Feb 2020. I phoned them to clarify and they confirmed this.

A CASA BFR is current till the last day of the month in which it was done. So a CASA BFR (AFR) done today is current to 28 Feb 2022. An RAA BFR expires 2 years from the day it was done.

Gentlemen, thank you for your comments and quick responses. Just to clarify, I have 2 standard lights, one on each wing strut on my Jab. These are not real bright, and I only use them for tkof and landing for visibility in poor light and the busy environment I operate in. They are not used for night landings as I operate day vfr only. Seems s simple switch change to illuminate both lights at once. The existing light assembly seems to be a simple “Downlight” arrangement which is exactly what I have seen at Bunnings Aerospace, however I will have a close look and see how I go.

Has anybody done this? I was thinking of replacing the standard issue light globes with LEDs as I’ve been told they use much less power and are brighter. Also wanting to change the switch wiring so that both (I have one on each wing) come on when turned on instead of the standard left or right system. I’ve also been told that LEDs may interfere with Radio. I have Wingtip strobes which don’t cause any Radio interference. Appreciate advice thanks

I have been using AvPlan for years, and cannot speak highly enough of the service I have received. I only use the basic vfr version, and whenever I have needed guidance or had a query, they are available on the phone or call back if they are busy. I use a Mini iPad 5 with a RAM suction mount, which works for me.

I only turn my strobes on when entering or leaving the active runway. Exactly as the Airlines do!

Yes, have a look at Trig. I have a Trig small round Mode S Transponder in my Jab and no probs since installation in 2014. My Microair VHF Com is still working well, but if it gives up, I will buy a Trig VHF Com. As back up, think about a Handheld connected to a Headset -
Cant go wrong with Plexus. Expensive but its the best!
