  1. Looking to retire my old well used David Clark headset and get a new one. So how are the Rec headsets at $149.00 as I see on Clear Prop for sale. They are damm cheaper then another set of DC's. Any guys using them, and what do you think of them please?
  2. This med 2 requirement for flying pvt aircraft say 4 seat SINGLE engine GA Cessna or piper etc types, is just flat out crap. Also keeps the government fingers in your wallet and the wheel turning, and to have and keep public servant kingdom going in government which we have way to much of everywhere. If you can drive a car that is APPROVED by a GP for your license, THEN you can fly a Cessna. Its not like we are flying 500 ton of A380's or 747's, Why are we so behind the world instead of leading for GA. (And lets not start of stupid cost and BS of an ASIC where a local police check would be the simple as if you are on a Fed list, I am sure all the red flashing lights would go off on the police computer, if the Feds were looking for you). And by the way - a few GA guys out back, who own their aircraft and flown for years now fly without any BFR or Medicals. It is not relevant to them and is just hoops to jump through with CASA, which they now refuse to do. In other words they are sick of the red tape and rules for the sake of rules, not safety. And - Do they care - NO. No GP can predict a heart attack as we have seen with fit healthy fitness guys and they have died without any warning.
  3. Not knowing your flying status or if you have a pilot cert but I am assuming not - I would suggest you rack up a few hundred hours before playing on water. Experience really dose count in many varied conditions especially on water. Its not as easy as you may think it is. No offence.
  4. Well done!!! - And they are more fun fly than the hi tech go fast plastic toys,
  5. So from reading above the RAA are making false reports to CASA? Then is CASA accepting (knowingly) these fake hours and using them to get more funding from the federal government. Don't people get in trouble for that? - or not????? Am I surprised. No.
  6. For GA guys - In a couple of years I will hit 60 years of age, and have passed MED 2 without any problems so far as I don't need my med one these days - but I am told once you hit 60 its a whole new ball game with tests for a MED2 ? Why? How many on this forum have turned 60 years old AND WHAT is the difference (any extra hoops) and were you knocked back/ why?
  7. Until we catch up with current power demands and lower costs and introduce the wind solar tech in staged steps without destroying our base load. At least with a coal power plant the runway lights will work at night and you don't have to burn $80,000 dollars of diesel fuel "a day" to keep some power on in SA with back up generators. Sorry - just don't understand the way Australia works any more. Sorry for the drift.
  8. Let the good times roll!!!Some PPL guys flying back from the wineries into Bankstown on Sundays many years ago were very average on arrival.
  9. For all the gurus here - some of us flew real ultralights with 27hp two stroke engine or less and some others here with victor mower lawn engines!
  10. Lodge A complaint and your logbook and name of CFI and your normal instructor with CASA. NOW! Also, Request a review of the flying school from CASA NOW!
  11. Hi - and enjoy the training.
  12. Have used one of these types or larger glass ones for many many years as last filter to engine and have found them brilliant. As you are flying a lot of hours per month bush flying? Fuel can be a bit of a problem. It shows up any water in the system that wing draining misses and visual of the fuel as well. Easy to remove and clean. Saved a lot of problems over the years.
  13. Must have bene my late renewal fee (FINE) - still don't know had that is justified.
  14. How to make an all weather stabilised grass runway!!! Just add plastic then seed. Individual blocks have been tested to support 26 ton = 260 ton per sq mtr. Tests done on empty cells. Grass-Cel® can be sawn, filled, drilled or shaped with normal hand tools. If you like the idea of turf driveways that will stand up to the wear and tear, Grass-Cel® is for you. Grass-Cel® offers an aesthetically pleasing and environmentally sensitive alternative to usual driveway and parking area materials, providing a secure foundation for cars and service vehicles. Grass-Cel® is very durable. It is resistant to rot and decay, vermin and insects, petroleum, oil and ordinary solvents, weather and temperature extremes, warping, chipping and water. Applications include: Driveways Parking areas Soil stabilisation Tree wells Worn Postman tracks Walkways Overflow parking Access roads Golf car parks & buggy tracks Air Strips / Runways
  15. Main reasons I would use a BRS system if installed. With an engine failure and a REASONABLE landing field around I would attempt to land the aircraft. I would hopefully!!!! expect less damage to the aircraft and salvage it. Remember - by pulling the pin you can basically call the aircraft written off. 1. Medical Problem (if carrying pax please also briefed what to do if you are unconscious to pull the pin) or you are able to pull the pin yourself. 2. Structural or control failure 3. Into cloud - losing control of aircraft 4. Flying over tiger country (bad person) with engine failure and only option is landing on top of trees 5. Takeoff from some hairy bush strips with trees, hills - engine fails at the worst time say 300ft - nowhere to go And 5. If the pilot is not confident of putting the plane down during a failure and also has concern for pax life injury - as usually the passenger (not your wife ) do not understand the real risk of flying small RAA or GA aircraft and or the pilot has limited experience and taking friends for a run to reduce injury or death. However the best way not to pull the pin is always have a place while flying to put down, as you should have been taught - Do you really trust ROTAX?
  16. This gentleman did ! Administrative Appeals Tribunal File number 2016/1472 Yes - and I said 97.7% and your in the tribunal - very green ish - try the bigger courts with say normal people against the banks etc. see how you fair. No picking a fight.
  17. TRUE STORY OF HOW TO USE CASA AGAINST ITSELF I have had a few run ins with CASA, never went to court or close to it or suspended etc (to be clear - we are still friends ) - just had the personal invite to come and sit down a have a chat with the guys as we have had a complaint from a pilot you declined an instructor rating (he needed more practice on many things) when I was doing checks on pilots. long story short . I failed this guy who should have been more competent, he then complained in writing I did things against the regs. Yes I did bend them a bit, fair call. Having our chat with them and coffee and biscuits with the nice view of the city - I said you gave me the position and then you want me to approve these guys that are taking new students up and cant fly an aircraft to save themselves, let along a innocent student who knows nothing and they could both put a hole in the ground. Gave some other reasons what I did to TEST his competence and he failed many of them. I told the Non Flying CASA guys how it is in the real world and did they want to see channel nine and the court why I failed the guys and WHY CASA was over riding my practical testing. Please take me to court so I can tell his honour and the TV reporters how screwed up the system is and how CASA is causing accidents - deaths because if someone complains that get oh we can over ride that and give you a pass. OUTCOME - The letter was torn up in front of me, they said keep up the good work, and was taken for a lovely lunch at the pub until one of the guys (2ic) had to go and ground a international 747 as a big hole (over two feet0 had been found in the back end, where acid had leaked in rear cargo area. All true AND My good Macquarie street barrister friend of 25 years says the court system is corrupt, if you are a working stiff you are screwed!!! - The answer is - if you cant push 100's of thousands of dollars into the law firm and the other side can OUT spend you - you loose. 97.7% of the time or worse. Any person off the street on a middle income cannot beat the court system if the other side has a no limit cash spend.to the legal system - ASIC - CASA - TAX DEPT - or any gov dept - can always bankrupt an average person by just grinding them into the ground. Talk about a fair a just system. Prove me wrong your honor.
  18. Sorry to hear Phil - but its going on everywhere. Lucky you were not hurt or killed if you woke up and tried to stop them. Sick of the crims and drug addicts. If they get caught its going to be a slap on the wrist. Its at a stage where we should have zero tolerance for break ins - home invasion - they should have no right of defence to put up - or - "the drugs made me do it" and I need money - (strict liability as we have now in flying) - 5 years jail and no judge can lower sentence. Government need to write the laws clearly - Australia is going down the tubes because we are so soft. And no bleeding heart judges.
  19. Hi Don, have you got the old ones? PM me with you number for a call if don't have any luck.
  20. So the RAA are the first to want paper work and reporting of any infringement (check the ops manual turbo) on what any member is doing, so why do we pay fees, to NOT be notified of the review of the operation of the Pauline Jab as it is OK or not. RAA are the police of RAA before running to big brother.Again some serious questions, by the effectiveness of board that should have answered to us as members, on the operation of the aircraft as it reflects on use as this high media profile operation many months ago, does it not?
  21. And - where is RAA in all of this - Not a word of support or its a problem with the operation ever! Why? anyone else and they would have phone calls from the office and paperwork????
  22. Slap on the wrist - for anyone else!
  23. He MAY have crossed the line a bit by flying into CTA, is one story I heard as being only a RAA pilot - However besides that if he flew her anywhere as a private person and was not paid as a pilot, and or for the aircraft its a moot point. I think its great we get (RAA sport aviation) in the headlines with Pauline showing what is available with RAA aircraft and we can match the VH Cessna types on distance more cheaply. Maybe we should start UBER RAA AVAITION!
  24. Maybe CASA should also look at itself and into whos running ATC, for handing out redundancies that they made a mistake on, and now the Tax dept is trying to claim tax on. CASA employs Air Services Australia I have been told, have not seen any heads roll on this one yet, but have heard plenty of lawyers being consulted by these guys who took up the offer.
  25. Back when Lightwings were invented from Howie, for example - some schools or people put them on displays in shopping malls or those car parks and even domestic airports to get students with people handing out information and X amount to be a PILOT! . Worked very well. Crowds of people. Have never seen it since. Marketing 101 - let them see it, touch it, and sign them up.
