1. I dd not say to drop any checks and those who do will come unstuck sooner or later no matter what. And they will do it with a instructor on board as a show. However, My point with BFR's are that pilots flying weekly don't loose the hands on flying skills in turns, airspeed dropping off, and stick and rudder coordination or xwind landing experience etc, compared to low time flyers - not being rude guys just a fact.
2. Really how useful is a BFR with pilots flying every week. Its the guys that fly one a month ish the need them in my humble opinion.
3. Please accept these assumptions below to stop thread drift - for your comment. If we assume that the covid 19 virus is here for 12 to 18 months before we get a vaccine does that mean that no international travel will be allowed and what airlines will be left after that point . If we also assume in Australia that we can virtually cancel the chance of spreading or catching the virus in the population with restrictions at present in say 3 months ish. That I would assume would mean that we could fly our sport aviation aircraft around Australia . However If the restriction is lifted before a virus vaccine is found and international travel starts again this will only cause in my opinion a reinfection of the population - so no jets flying overseas for 12 - 18 months? . What are the members views here for sport flying in Australia. and What are the views for international air travel if and when it ever starts again for Holidays overseas AND REALLY what airlines will be left in the world to fly.
4. Nanny state thinking - The reason the AUF (pre RAA) was formed by CASA was to put all of US (some here will know) ILLEGAL, overweight, unregistered, mostly backyard built, ultralights and untrained pilots flying around uncontrolled. Now today we are overcontrolled with Dudley do rights over our shoulder.
5. 10AM TODAY - scmo PM: We have a long way to go "We have bought Australia valuable time. To chart a way out over the next six months. But there are no guarantees, and it could well take far longer. "Our country will look different on the other side, but Australians will always be Australians. "Flattening the curve, buying more time, time other countries haven't had, and we have seen the devastating effects on those nations and their people. "Preparing our health system for the challenge is to come. Putting in place the big economic lifeline and the buffers for Australians, in what for so many will be the toughest ever year in 2020.
6. 1. as I said above - accept the premise 2. Government has said we may be this way till Xmas - Where have you been?
7. For example do we expect if we cant fly for 6 months lets say- 1. Flying schools going broke - not paying lease/loan on aircraft 2. People that have lost jobs and cant afford it any more so the plane must go. 3. Just losing interest in flying and to have a plane sitting in a hangar Your thoughts?
8. So what type of aircraft crashed at Heckfield. Was it a pipistrel.
9. What do you think?? As most of us cant fly during this period and I assume a lot of us fit into the high risk area of COVID 19 with age and of course incomes being affected, I notice our leaders have not reduced - suspended - offered reducing any fees of rego costs for the next say 6 months. . I HAVE POSTED SOME E-MEESAGE SECTIONS BELOW. From the Chair What we do know for sure though is that we do not want you to miss out on the ability to go flying. See below for more information on how we are changing the way we work to ensure that your ability to fly is not interrupted. Having said all of this, we also urge you to consider if it is appropriate to go flying. If you have any symptoms of the virus or are just generally feeling unwell then perhaps save flying for another day. If your planned flight contravenes any government restrictions in place at the time then again, please be responsible. A large portion of our membership is in the at risk age group where, if infected, they face a higher degree of likelihood that they may develop serious or even life threatening complications. We are a reasonably small cohort where a lot of us know each other and we should use that close knit aspect of our community to make sure we look out for each other. Let’s not forget this and make sure that we don’t take unnecessary risks with our health, flying or other activities while we work our way through this pandemic. It’s times like these that we get an opportunity to show leadership and make decisions for the collective or we can make some bad decisions that reflect badly on us as a whole. So while we face some the most challenging times we will ever see, let’s make sure as aviators we are viewed in the way we want to be seen. Take care and be safe, What do these changes mean for you? We value your membership and are working hard to minimise any impact on you. Membership and aircraft renewal processing is continuing without interruption, however due to logistical issues, membership cards (for new members) and aircraft cards will not be posted for a while. Not having your membership card or aircraft card does NOT stop you from taking to the skies. Don't forget you can access your membership information through the RAAus app, available on iOS and Android. The RAAus Online Shop is closed until further notice. For urgent orders of manuals or log books please contact [email protected] We have suspended ASIC collections from our office. If you need to collect an ASIC please speak to your issuer about alternate collection points. We are still available to talk to you by phone, email, and social media. Because many of us are working remotely, it may mean that you leave us a message so that the right person can call you back, but we are here for you and will do our best to adapt as circumstances change. RAA should just suspend BFR's for the next 6 months. Common sense and no brainer. If you have survived this long you SHOULD make it. Smile! Where is the fast acting RAA leadership (as usual.)
11. Question Just looking at the lets say older members here (which I am one) - do you intend to fly or stay away. What are the local flying schools doing? Are they still operating as normal.
12. Bruce - Please define as I don't understand your comment. "religious slurs like dog and doG do not belong on a site like this"
13. Rocket Ship - This was Franks first plane in his early flying days. Note - Also the motor bike tyres he stole of some poor farmer and the bamboo frame and struts Smile Frank!!!
14. People from GA forget or have not flown true ultralight aircraft and about the lack if "inertia" with some of our RA aircraft. That get affected with high winds and gusts. Some are like butterfly's specifically the rag wind types. Most of these publishes speed in RA aircraft are at best guidelines in my opinion. I agree with adjust the legs but watch out when you turn into final as your ground speed my slow by 30kts depending on wind strength and gusts. I prefer to be slightly faster above where i touch down then not make it over the fence. Not being rude to you Ryann
15. OK if you are serious about getting up to speed with forced landings. Find a quite strip around you can use if you have not already got one. Land on it, and have a bag of house hold flour with you. Put a line across the strip about a third down the strip. That flour line is you touchdown point main wheels. Fly at different levels from 1500 ft to 5 thousand and further out then just being in a circuit. Practice away. Do on different days with wind and direction and different wind conditions over time. Hot and gusty as well when you are up to it. It is worth doing this for an couple of hours at a time over a few weeks to get it right and get comfortable with gliding to a touchdown point. Use different things like S turns and slide slip, different flap settings, and speeds etc. Explore the differences of speeds and flaps in those specific conditions without exceeding flap speeds. Always let someone know when and where you are doing this, and have a SAR time with the wife or however you pick - Just in case ,and they know exactly where you are and your track to get there.
16. Probably one of the new Chinese flying schools that have opened up here.
17. Hi Frank, its about time you got the old push victor lawn mower out and did the grass. A few snakes or crocs could be hiding around.
18. https://www.google.com.au/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=video&cd=10&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwii5ePO3ZDmAhVKcCsKHRm6CncQtwIIVjAJ&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.msn.com%2Fen-us%2Fweather%2Fvideo%2Felectric-vehicle-battery-explodes-while-charging-in-store-in-wenzhou-china%2Fvp-BBXsk1d&usg=AOvVaw1lqmSZifv9ZrteMCCpaNE4 "Most lithium-ion battery fires and explosions come down to a problem of short circuiting. This happens when the plastic separator fails and lets the anode and cathode touch. ... In some models, when the battery expanded a little as it charged, the electrodes bent and caused a short circuit." So before I get to excited about flying electric planes I have read and viewed a number of video of electric car batteries catching fire or exploding. Now the question is how safe are these things and what happens if you are in the air and it all goes to hell. I am only talking about out RAA toys here or that you can get. What safety if any do we have for these in aircraft? I know we will be soon killed for flying petrol powered planes soon and I bet taxed to fly them.
19. Hi Frank, you are a G.O.A.T (Greatest Of All Time) for the ultra light community in north QLD and spreading the fun. Pure inspiration for all the Old Bastards still flying.
20. This beast is the best look at what it can do and in the winter. The CL 415 was brought out to Australia (guess) 20 years ago and gave demonstration's to government and the head of QLD and NSW fire fighters. you could have had Five of them for around 110 mill back then. You would never guess why they we never ordered by the stupid government federal or state. Guess. Huge mistake people in power make, as they saw them as a threat to their power and kingdoms.
21. Sling 2 great to fly, an easy honest plane, just maintain thy airspeed. Best way to land initially it is hold it off the two feet above the runway and let it stop flying all by itself. Have a great time.
22. Yes - But should be open only to members on this site not to general public.
23. If you look for a share position in aircraft and how about jab or sling 4 seat.
24. I have flown in and out of Boonah this year a few times. Dave is a well know RAA instructor operating a flying school plus a large active glider club. Lots of planes in all the hangars. Great place. g Old Koreelah - is right with a nice new sub division and one end of the runway. Where was the report then saying not a good idea and did the council put a big sign to people saying aircraft flying low over this area? Who cares about a bit of a hump in the middle as may other fields have them and non tar pilots don't have any problems as well as inaccurate windsocks, inadequate fencing on many other airfields. Anyone looking for a fun airstrip to land on try the Whitsundays with the windsocks pointing different directions. The idiot council as per the usual way the whole government in this country goes - is to order a third party report with a outcome already known. Then use it as a shield to the public saying we have no choice. If the council do take the airfield are they then going to sell the land for more houses for more money and short term gain? Just Venting and pissed off with the news.
