My Savannah S model rebuild Blog

Australian Sheet Traders near Archerfield...Unit 7 57 Mortimer Rd Acacia Ridge The sales manager is a good guy. Where I work we used to get all that sort of stuff from them. The doors are 1.5mm and I already have the sheets to make the windscreen and overhead. That is 2mm thick. The sheets are 2440 x 1220 and not expensive about $62 each. The 2mm was a similar price. Give me a call or message me and I will give you Gary's details -

Worst job you can do on a Savannah rebuild....derivet and pull the doors to bits, strip all the paint off, cut and replace all the polycarb and rivet it all back together Lost the pax side ball attachment hinge for the door...pulled the place aprt twice now but will look again...dont want to have to make one :9 3 jobs to do. That is strip the undercarriage and paint it also maintain the bearings and brakes then cut and fit the parachute external cover plate on top of the fuselage. Fix the bottom of the cowl and strip it back and make sure it all fits properly then she can go and get painted... -
E-Props ...who has first hand experience with these

All CSU (I gather thats what your commenting on Bruce) are expensive. I personally dont think they are worth the cost for the performance for our type of aircraft. Posted above is the std type ground adjustable prop. I believe Eprop are finalizing testing on their range of props for the Jabiru engines now as well -

Some further info have been doing a few circuits. Climb rate is best at 70knots 1100fpm. Previously best at 50knots 1100fpm. 40knot climb is much less at around 600 fpm sent Today at 6:08 PM Pretty happy with it. Much easier to start. More responsive to throttle. Taken weights off the back for balance. Feels very different -

A customer sent me some info today. He has a RANS S-7 short tail version. attached is the pic. 92kts cruise @ 5200 rpm Thats 8 kt increase in cruise speed Yes just landed. sent Today at 4:26 PM All good so far. I think the recommended setting was perfect. sent Today at 4:26 PM Bit lumpy air so I don’t have accurate figures yet. But looking like 8 Knots increase cruise. Climbing well but feels very very different. -

I did a repair on a mates Flightline 760...I thought they were just pretty crappy cheap radios but actually they are not too bad at all. Especially for the money..just it is single frequency with a channel scan not a dual watch. Given they are about AU$1000 thats half the price really of most others. It beats having a HH in the cockpit..they are never successfull with cables and coaxes hanging from them. A wired in unit is by far better...They are certainly better than the Microair POS -

Kyle Communications replied to danny_galaga's topic in Instruments, Radios and Electronics
The 760 is only a single channel style radio it doesnt do the "scan" between 2 frequencies...so thats why he has 2 radios I would think. Xcom can toggle between 2 within itself -

New CASA survey
Kyle Communications replied to Kyle Communications's topic in AUS/NZ General Discussion
I think it will be data that CASA want for eventually ADSB in and out to be used by all aircraft for identification and safe flying..."be seen" Maybe its what they might want to use with or against ASA..who knows what these guys agenda is lately -
This will be CASA wanting to know what sort of identifying gear you have on board like transponder and radio...ADSB SE2 or similar etc

Rans S-21 Outbound
Kyle Communications commented on red750's aircraft in General Aviation (single engine)
I flew that very aircraft on the 11th and 13th of Oct 2018. Rans have stopped making the FWF kit for the Rotax as most seem to want the Titan. They also stopped the 915 IS version because they couldnt get the inlet temps down to the Rotax spec. Rotax have now revised their specs and Randy will probably go back to doing a FWF kit for the 915 IS now. The std 100hp S-21 flies perfectly with 2 POB and when I flew it half fuel load...which is a lot. We had climb rates of 600 to 800 ft per min easily and that was at a fastish climb of around 70 to 80 mph. My Rotax powered one will have close to around 118 to 120hp. The engine is built and sitting here waiting for me to finally get to start the build. As a test to their popularity is when I ordered mine back in 2018 it too 10 months to have it ready to ship..the current wait from time of order to get a kit is 14 months !!!!! Rans can not make enough of them -

Been trying to decide on a paint scheme...not too fancy but not as complicated as the girlfriend was. I quite like this one but as I already have the paint..ex Virgin airlines so its good stuff 🙂 I have red white and dark gray This scheme is very similar to the Rans S-21 scheme on the very first one they flew and the one I had 2 flights in. I think I will have the wings white and a single starburst style red on the top Where it is yellow on the picture I might have red then under that it will be white and under the bottom like on the S-21 pic I will have dark gray as it shouldnt show too much mud/dirt -

Taken from the web Is iPad GPS accurate? The iPad with the 3G/cellular option has an embedded GPS. The WiFi only iPads do not have an embedded GPS. ... When you use an iPhone or iPad to geotag a photo, the accuracy is about 100 feet (about 30 meters), because Apple only stores GPS data down to the nearest second in latitude and longitude. -

Finding all the rest of the bits to get ready for painting. Have the trapdoor from underneath currently coated in paint stripper and then almost forgot the doors. Started pulling the outer door covers off so I can paint strip them and also replace the 1.5mm lexan windows as they are pretty crazed and not clear. I forgot how many rivets are in them especially when you have to drill them all out then of course put them all back in then get painted again. I found one door the pilot door had a whack in it too so fixed that. I didnt realize the door lexan was 1.5mm so will order that on monday. Should be here this week hopefully -

Well is it? They say the revised Tech manual V4.1...which isnt posted yet. This is some of what it says about changes to the Tech manual Section 6 regarding aircraft modifications has been rewritten to provide more clarity on requirements for modifications in respect to the differing aircraft certification bases Maintenance policy updated to provide further clarity regarding maintenance schedules So it will be interesting to see what these are. With all these changes and new acronyms.....more acronyms means more cost -
