  1. What a lovely forward thinking transport infrastructure plan. It makes so much sense. However, Government blue prints are no more than 'pie in the sky' dreaming. And it's not often that a government will spend up big on public transport. It's likely that fast trains run best on standard gauge tracks - (not like our Statewide narrow gauge that we are presently saddled with). That's another reason we probably won't be actually getting high speed trains in Qld anytime soon. Pity about that.
  2. The point, TP, is that we don't fly from/to controlled aerodromes. (With a few rare exceptions) When I fly from one grass strip to the next, making a 'mayday fuel' transmission makes no improvement to my safety.
  3. The bicycle shop will sell you a CO2 sparklet tap/ Schrader setup ready made for racing bike tyre inflation. Saw one at Also recently
  4. I'm confused. Does this mean that carbon is captured from some polluting industry (no doubt using an unknown amount of energy in the process), somehow combined with ethanol in a mix that a jet engine can function with, then burnt in the jet engines where it is released high in the atmosphere? How can that be good?
  5. Another triumph for CASA Still, one wonders how a large aircraft got down to its last 30 minutes of fuel. At least, I assume that was the trigger for the 'Mayday'. Maybe they were stuck in a prolonged holding pattern.
  6. I think some stuff is being taken out of context. Some of the lines quoted in the letter are RAA responses to specific questions asked by CASA. One might ask whether CASA might be engaging in a little of "divide and conquer"
  7. "If I'm not going to conflict with an aircraft that has made a radio call... , I often do not reply" So, you are relying on other aircraft making excessive radio calls, otherwise you don't know they are in your area of potential conflict?
  8. This time you shouldn't worry as much as when Caitlin went. Boy, I wish we had school excursions like that when I was young!
  9. That Spad was innovative. It took me a while to work out how the propulsion worked. No need for trigger synchronisation!
  10. I believe that Taree Aero club have a BBQ from time to time. They have flight training in Cessna 172's. If you're interested in lighter flying, send a PM (start conversation) with forum member Pylon500. I think he does training at Taree in recreational aircraft (ultralights, but not gyros)
  11. So, all you folk who keep complaining about RAA not listening to members. Here is an example of RAA listening to members, and retracting something that members disapproved of. I can't see any evidence of the alleged 'covering tracks'. By the way, as far as I know, RAA already have a number of registered trademarks. This was just one more. Probably not particularly essential to us, so in the face of criticism, they let go of it.
  12. Get over it fellas. RAA never asked for royalties. And they made that clear from the start. And they have (after all this mudslinging) withdrawn the application so if someone else really want to own the phrase, they can apply for it.
  13. Gentlemen, please! If you wish to know the status of the tech manager position in RAAus, just phone the number in the front of Sport Pilot magazine, and ask. Blind speculation is not constructive.
  14. The Lightwing thread has been quiet lately. I hope thats because the Lightwing fraternity are all too busy flying, to post. My GA-912 has been a long project and now very near to completion. It's registered, and I've done the flight testing required to legally run a Bolly propeller (performs really well, too). Still awaiting final MARAP approval but that looks very close now. My circumstances have changed. I must sell. Anybody interested, please contact me for details and make an offer. Peter, 0435-318-731
  15. This is unbeloodybelievable. I've been dealing with Darren regarding my MARAP application after I submitted all flight testing paperwork 4 months ago. Last week he wasn't answering my phone calls or emails and when I finally got on to Jared, it seemed Darren was on annual leave and about to return to work. And once again was told my MARAP had been found and I should have an answer in a week. Sounds to me like there was no handover of work in progress. The implication was that staff of RAA didn't know he was leaving? In fact, staff told me he should already be back at work and they didn't understand why he hadn't undiverted his phone? I get the feeling that RAA is successfully taking the CASA method of (slowly) dealing with members. Not impressed at all.
  16. I believe that one in four DV deaths is a male. (Add an in counted number of male suicides that probably result from DV victims unable to cope). So since the number of dead males is smaller than the number of deceased females, it goes unreported by the media! Or worse, there is an assumption that the male victim either caused the situation or deserved it. I know this because that was the response I got when I phoned a DV hotline to seek help after my partner put me in hospital. Anyway, this discussion should move offshore to the WUA forum. It's got little to do with either recreation or flying.
  17. Utah? Perhaps he was religious? Maybe it was an act of god to turn out this way?
  18. Sorry Ian. Don't go on a mission. It's not a big deal
  19. Ian, can you close a thread, and leave a link to WUA? That might stop unsuitable thread drift. And maybe discourage some of the hijack/trolling/baiting. Once a thread has drifted into a unrelated (non recflying) theme where a couple of posters start airing their passions, it can be impossible to drag it back to the original theme.
  20. So why aren't you building a hang glider?
  21. BTW Don't think for a moment that US or UK give a rat's ass about us, no matter how much brown nosing our petty little pollies do.
  22. With all this rain, you should be out in your shed, working beaverishly to stay warm. (may I call it a mini hangar now that there is a aeroplane shape in it?)
  23. Joyce a joke? All our pollies are a joke. But some are more so than others.
