  1. A friend with a 172 rg had a similar thing happen to his plane, the hirer reported U/c trouble and was preparing for wheels up. Mate said no, we will come for inspection on another aircraft 1st, ended up convincing passengers to sit on the rear floor and put their leg out and hook it on the leg and pull it forward into lock, quite successfully done, landed withou incident.
  2. Skippy, it appears someone has forced screwed the speco in, I would probably source another speco as going back to original thread would do more damage to the thread and maybe not seal.
  3. Some of the P plate drivers around here seem to use full power whenever possible :)
  4. If you pre purchase then can't get there due weather, is there a refund?
  5. So Jetjr how many hours did your first engine last? What cost to replace?
  6. Over the life I believe rotax to be cheapest ! Why? Most jabirus are reengined at 1000 hrs if they make it that far, most rotax do 2000 plus without much trouble. Buy 2 jab engines at $15000 it starts to get expensive.
  7. a 60' bank turn does not necessarily increase the stall speed. Flying parachutists, descent was made at 80' bank 60 kts full flap cruise power, did not once hear the stall warning! The final turn is a descending turn.

    Picture

    It now resides in Tumut
  9. The hole in the head ( don't start me on the engineer who thought it up) was to allow air in to help drain the rockers of oil. It was a jabiru 'fix'
  10. As a final destination I believe Heaven would the place to be.
  11. Photo of scoring from cylinder 2. Possibly stuck valve resulting in piston disintegration or overheat seizure. Interesting it had done about the same number of hours as the factory new engine had done when for some unstated reason it was "rebuilt"
  12. Seriously how hard would it be to visit your GP once per year and have them give you a quick once over to make sure you are actually in a fit condition to fly an aircraft? That quick once over will not make sure you are in a fit condition for anything.
  13. Ian if I were you I would seriously consider giving up driving, with the risk other drivers may have drugs or alcohol or may have a heart attack, doing 100 kph and passing within a metre or two of you also doing 100kph, fairly risky I would say. A 2000 kg car can do a lot of damage. FAA & U.K. CAA have recognised the pilot medical for recreational/private pilots does not contribute to increased safety.
  14. Pity. Wonder if they will introduce security screens in the car park to prevent runaway cars mixing with pedestrians?
  15. Nathan c plenty of pilots flying now with no casa medical with no difference in health related incidents compared to those with casa medical. Casa medical is not required for safety reasons. If you think you are at less risk because you just passed your medical then your sadly mistaken. If you think about a private pilot doing 50 hrs a year, say 1 hr/ wk that works out to be 0.59% of his/her time actually flying, very low risk if you ask me.
  16. That will affect RAAus as far as their cta push goes then. Typical of CASA requiring something with no facts in regard to safety. A type certificated engine is no guarantee it won't fail.
  17. Only if you have built one substantially similar, I would take that to mean type of construction ie composite, tube and fabric, timber, or aluminium. Also I assume would apply to similar engine type. But who knows what that really means? I suppose it depends who you ask on the day!
  18. 912uls is all that is required in a j230. If only jabiru would offer the option.
  19. I'm sure Rotax have done a lot of testing on it. They will sell them, most probably the US govt. will be a major customer.
  20. Any accident in Russia is considered just bad luck, particularly by the party at fault.
  21. Bex, I would think the display pilots and aircraft would be a substantial cost on top of the insurance
