  1. Wasn't there a nurse sometime ago that walked into the prop of a Flying Doctor aircraft whilst she was carrying a tray of medical bits? She lost both of her lower limbs, she was extremely lucky not to lose her life. Also a friend of mine an instructor in the Philippines who had been flying a Drifter on and off all day when was called over to an X-Air by another pilot. My friend lost situational awareness and walked into the prop of the X-Air. Remember that the engine mounting of the motor on the X-Air is high like a pusher mounting except it is a tractor configuration. My friend had his ear hanging by a thread, his shoulder cleaved out and lost his thumb and first finger. Although he won't admit it when one examines the position of his injuries just maybe he was using his mobile at the time. He was very lucky as he nearly bled out before he got medical attention. Where there is smoke there is usually fire and where there is an engine running on an airfield there is a prop somewhere, spinning!
  2. Really enjoyed it as it reminded me of the flight projects dad and me used to get up to when I was a kid many moons ago!
  3. It always ran fine for me in the Datsun 120Y so maybe it's just mass hysteria
  4. Hi Ralph, There is a Ryco platinum version in the Ryco Z386 but first, it doesn't specfically say on the box that it has a drain back valve also it is a very, what would I say, restrictive filter. It has a 99.9% effective filtering rate and can't be used on racing enginges and must be changed at 5,000 k's or the equivalent in hours. Whet I'm wondering if in fact it would effect the oil flow in the Jabiru motor to the extent of being in detrimental to the motor. I have found the Repco filters ok and the Z386's of which I purchased quite a few of some 6 years ago and am now down to my last one.
  5. Oh well I guess good things come to those who wait! It's like Christmas it's coming but never seems to get here until it's been and gone and the cycle once again, starts.
  6. Great stuff but they left the best out, I guess because it wasn't a jet, that is the very low pass in a Spitfire over the head of a reporter!
  7. Typical female, nothing but complaints. Next thing you know there will be a 3 hour epic Hollywood blockbuster on how they lost it! Obviously they have never heard of " any landing you walk away from is a good landing."
  8. It's not often you get to fly a Mustang oh well almost, great clip.
  9. I'm waiting with baited breath I can assure you because I have been waiting for years for someone to come up with the right answers! I do know of one very smart gentleman who re-engineered his Jab 2200 increasing power output and it would appear relaibility. He ran his motor in a Jodel problem free for many hours, some of you out there who live down around or fly around the Gatton area will know who I am talking about. I really do hope Demech does have some real answers to the problem. Rick-p
  10. Well please are you going to enlighten us because I know without a doubt that there are many interested parties floating in the wings waiting for a break through on this subject?
  11. Your observations are extremely interesting Nev because of some certain conversations I had with a Level 2 yesterday and also your advice to me re some upper cylinder lube in the avgas was also raised by him, first. I'm following it up beause the Jabiru motors in the Philippines are only to the best of my knowledge run on 98 ron mogas. Also I was given some other jets to use to increase fuel flow but never used them because after a lot of reading and discussion with Jabiru the important issue, as you have raised, is EGT and if it is within the appropriate heat range then you don't need bigger jets. 12. Hi, did you ever post the results of what the findings were in respect of your engine problems and also did it get repaired to your satisfaction, in end? I'm sorry if you have already posted on this but it is just that I can't find anything and I am interested in the mater. I started this post some 40,000 plus views ago in the hope that all, if any, of the Jab motor's continuing problems could be gathered at one point and then followed up with the factory to see if some closure could be reached in having the reoccurring problems being addressed and dealt with on an engineering platform rather than through just discussion about them. Rick-p PS Some of the people in these posts have come up with great ideas and constructive comment whilst others have been nothing more than bashers so lets now take this to the next level and get some results.
  13. Another good clip from the Master of film clips and videos! I have an old timer which is about 2/3rds that size, just love them they are so much fun both in the building and flying.
  14. Powerin the above is not directed at you it is a general observation only!
  15. No Rotax reports why is someone being paid under the table not to report Rotax engine issues! (tongue in cheek). I seem to recall the following incidents:- .912 engine problems Dee Why Sydney, 1 fatality Previous, 2 older gentlemen dead 912 failure, down into a paddock. I think that there have been a number of others but I will have to go and check in the magazines. Also I know of 2 overseas. If I can recall these incidents then how many others can recall different incidents involving 912's As I have previously said reliability is relative to cost and if you don't wish to spend the bucks and obtain the gold leaf item then be happy with what you have got or get out of it don't make it uncomfortable for everyone else because I believe that if you don't have a Jabiru motor in your aircraft you haven't earn't the right to complain because you haven't paid for it and that also goes for those who don't own or have ever owned a 912 or any other Rotax motor. If it is man made (engineered) it will never be bullet proof and price will always determine reliability. A lot of us, if they are like me, are prepared to take the risk so why make it uncomfortable for us who don't really give a rat's ass and will deal with it when a problem arises, not if! I apologize for nothing. That's my two bob's worth. Rick-p
