  1. Dont do it! I had a C152 online at a busy school many years ago, and the maintenance costs well outstripped the revenue. Enjoy it yourself you will be much happier.
  2. Im lucky in that ive had the Microair 760 in my Jabiru last 5 years and no issues so far. There is difficulty however reading the display in bright light. Last Signal check with Centre on a recent cross country was readabilty 5. I understand the Microair Factory at Bundaberg no longer sells or support these Radios so if/when it fails I will probably go for the Trig equivalent.
  3. I’ve also had my D2 for 3 years and had a problem after 1 year where it was very slow finding satellites. Dynon advised this was a problem in Asia and Australia and fixed it with a firmware update. No problems since. You can adjust the screen brightness in the settings and i usually have mine up full!
  4. At Oshkosh this year, Dynon announced a new D3 which comes with synthetic vision and is expected to cost under $1K USD.
  5. Airventure Australia is the Cessnock thing in Sept. Ausfly is the Narromine thing in Oct. Natfly is an obsolete name
  6. What is a BALANCE MASTER?
  7. So this is a completely separate event from AIRVENTURE at Cessnock a month earlier?
  8. And Jabiru offer a Cold Start kit as an option which is a must in cold weather
  9. If I am parked outside for longer than a week, I hook up a 10w Solar charger with voltage reg attached and works fine.
  10. Hi MichaelI’ve been many times and am going again this year. PM me and we can catch up and perhaps meet up
  11. My Microair also has electrical type interference when receiving distant stations however on a recent trip i did a transmit check with Melbourne Centre and they received me 5X5.I find that the display is difficult to read in sunlight, and very difficult to change frequency in any sort of turbulence! I also had problems trying to speak with a tech at Microair, they were not interested in discussing issues a couple of years ago. I will replace mine with a Trig to match my Transponder when the time comes.
  12. Mate I know how you feel!I have one of those Foreign Currency Credit Cards in USD and when I checked the balance recently, all money gone by a number of transactions generated in Hanoi. The Card has been in my Wallet all the time. Ive heard that some Scammers have machines which generate milions of random Card numbers in the hope that eventually, one will come up with a valid number. So now ive had to lodge DISPUTED TRANSACTION forms and will probably have to wait weeks or months before I get a refund, cant do a thing about it.
  13. Yeah it’s great fun fitting it on a windy day by yourself!
  14. A good quality Cabin Cover will help a lot. It’s the delicate Avionics and Instruments that need the protection. I got a Cover from Bruces Custom Covers in the USA, they have a great reputation for quality and they have info on their website about recorded temps in the Cabin with or without Covers. They are expensive but worth it. They make lightweight Travel Covers and all sorts of other stuff for outside protection. Probably too late for your impending trip, but keep in mind for the future.
  15. Also, If you run AvPlan, that’s also in plain English
  16. I think Geoff means building HOURS in flight, not building the plane.
  17. Recommended pressures on my 170 is 45 for mains and 30 for nose. I seem to get more wear on the LH Main in the middle for some reason?
  18. I think you will find that your plastic turns up next week, and will show your LAST BFR date 2016. Thus your Card will be current and when you do your BFR next June, the RAA records will be updated.
  19. They send out the Card a week after Renewal. They told me that the email certificate is proof of your membership pending arrival of the plastic.
  20. Agree completely, with emphasis on the WISELY USED remark
  21. And in turbulence, in a high workload situation, try tapping the screen to change the map orientation or select a GOTO. Chances are you will accidentally tap the wrong thing, and while staring at the screen trying to rectify it, the airplane will wander off altitude and or heading and make a stressful situation worse. I use Avplan and find it a great BACKUP but where i fly, you MUST look out the window for obvious reasons. Too much reliance on electronics for the average recreational pilot will end badly eventually.
  22. When you buy a new GPS, the first thing the manual says is WARNING - NOT TO BE USED FOR PRIMARY NAVIGATION - USE AS BACKUP AS AN AID TO DEAD RECKONING..... or something very similar. As others have said, why the objection to learning basic navigation?
  23. And Rob, what do you do when the electrics fail in remote country, and your Charts are in the Car?
  24. Ian you are 100% correct and the GPS will only display GPS derived GROUND SPEED not IAS!
  25. I picked up a Lexmar portable pack from Sportys in the USA which has 4 USB Ports and does not interfere with my Radio. Wasn't cheap at $119.95 but the Reviews are good and it does the job. Search Ipad Power and Sportys Pilot shop USA for full details
