  1. I'm wondering if it's a bit of "grandstanding" before the election. Trying to make it look like those in power now are making things happen. It really doesn't present anything much new or concrete. I've heard all this "definately happening" 10 yrs ago....
  2. I tend to agree. United we stand and divided we fall and all that.....and the aviation organisations are too small to push hard for changes by themselves. But casa must love the in-fighting, favouring those that kiss casa's @rse..... As I see it, the RAA and AOPA are taking different aproaches to implement change. The RAA is "going with the flow" and buddying up to casa, hoping for some favours to flow down. AOPA is "in their face" and confronting casa for change.. I think past history shows confronting and demanding anything from casa is perhaps counterproductive.
  3. Yeah...sounds like it has gone "rogue". Out of the ordinary I would say. Perhaps there is no "authority" of any kind to keep a handle on things. A school or training facility usually pulls wayward flyers in line as a bad example to their students or perhaps pilots don't want to be seen breaking the rules so behave.
  4. To me, seeing the 472.5 kg was the obvious reason this never took off (pardon the pun). As soon as 600 kg became the norm, anything below was immediately devalued. (At least here) With Aussies being generally large people and the country being so large, 600kg is about the minimum for 2 people and some gear with any sort of decent range.
  5. I think there is an RAA form for those with 19 rego wanting to fly over built up areas.
  6. As per the link in my post above. About $16 EACH..Free delivery over $20.... So, 2 pieces DELIVERED for 32 odd dollars ..... Aussie company, so I'm guessing a week or less delivery?
  7. https://tinytach.com/gasoline-tinytach Aust dealer. ..... Flexible Drive Agencies Kensington, Victoria PHONE: 1300 36 37 35
  8. That 260 hp in a RV 14 would be soooo sweeet! Not sure I would need that MASSIVE turbo to 30 000 ft..... 18 000 would do me..lol. Slightly off topic, but I was looking at turbo's for a 912 uls "normalising" application. It starts to get quite complex over the normal car "boosting" turbo's where you are dealing with basically the amount of boost and rpm at sea level. Adding the 3rd dimension of altitude requires the turbo to not overboost at low level but be capable of a large amount of boost at high altitude. Wastegate control obviously is important but irrelevant if the turbo can't perform to the required specs.
  9. It's "zero five". Replace just the one faulty (but it may pay to have an immediate spare on hand in the future) https://www.mxstore.com.au/search/?q=vd05fmh You may find cheaper from the UK from ebay and online stores but it's a bit of a wait.... Rotax use a different design now. I'm told they grip the plug better and aren't as wobbly or loose. I'd hate to even ask the price......
  10. And the number of pilots doing left hand circuits when ERSA states right hand on a specific runways....
  11. Would you like to make a pdf "how to vote" card or similar document? Something we could print out and/or email to friends. ... to promote your application.
  12. Fitting an oil thermostat may help to bring the oil temp up faster. https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/eppages/xcomthermostat.php
  13. My oil temp is generally equal to or slightly higher than cht. Cht's generally in the 90's and I do push the rpm's. Rarely do I reach 100 c cht but do go above in 100 c oil temps in climb.... I personally wouldn't like cht's much above (if at all) 100 c. If you are getting that now, summer is going to be difficult. Course pitching is know to give higher temps. Especially oil.
  14. Well, it's the floats that control the flow into the carbies and therefore also the pressure. So that might be something to look at. (As well as the needle and seat) There have been bad batches of floats in circulation for a while and I thought it had been sorted but a local Vixen with several hundred hours was found to have bad floats recently. The flow to the fuel pump in not impeded? No blocked filters, kinked hoses? Disconnected at the pump inlet side, the fuel flows readily out the hose from the tanks? Tank air vents clear? Any sort of restriction on the suction side of the pump, alows the posibility of vapour being pulled from the fuel. As a long shot, the carb vent lines? Generally they give mixture issues if poorly placed in pressure/ vacuum areas. If using a sealed cold air intake, they should be attached to that. How are you measuring the pulsation? Definately no suspicion there?
  15. I have heard of some owners doing away with the plug completely and just fitting the 6.3mm spade connectors individually. That way you can "feel" how each connection fits (tight or loose).
  16. As it will be a new class, I imagine ANY aircraft that fits the requirements can be registered. ie, heavier than 600 kg RAA "amateur built" and lighter than xxx kg mtow currently built as VH exp..... I take " amateur built" to mean anything that is not factory built? Plans built, kit built..... Initally limited to 760 kg, then 1500 in the future. I'm a skeptic like you Jaba....just repeating what was said....
  17. I attended a presentation a few weeks ago and asked that exact question to the president. His answer confirmed owner maintenance for the over 600kg class in amateur built. I can't recall if that included non hire/reward factory built or not. My previous impression was all aircraft over 600kg would be lame maintained.
  18. Bloke mentioned Diamond and Tecnam twins, so he's not short of cash..... Go Diamond.... DA 42, 4 seater. Diesel engines drinking jet fuel.... cool as...
  19. It's all ok until it's not ok. Does the driver/filler change? Who does it when he's sick? Alot of variables in the supply of your fuel and the first time you realise there is a problem it maybe in flight. There is another thread here about diesel in fuel getting into and diluting the engine oil.
  20. I'm also not sure I get your question. Ozrunways has a "document" link to the various airports. This will give all the info on each airport. The only real restrictions are airspace and controlled airports.
  21. Get Ozrunways app. Free trial.... may help.
  22. People say, "I prefer steam gauges. I don't like any of that new fangled glass stuff." But really look at the situational awareness it can give you..... as per the above post. The accurate and instant live information available now is pretty miraculous...
  23. I have had a good look at Poteroo's Brumby and I don't think I've seen a "visually" stronger Looking RAA aircraft. So many rivets and a super strong undercarriage. The empty weight of 365 (?) Kg seems to support this as well...
  24. Sssshhhh......don't give them ideas...... CEO will have the calculator out crunching numbers about how much he can scam off owners..... while spruiking "No fee increases"...
