  1. Here's a question for the panel: Why is it so, that via my desktop PC, Oshkosh airport on google maps shows no aircraft, but via an iPad, there they all are arriving and parked. Google Earth shows nothing also. If you zoom in near the white 172, I'm there in the yellow shirt....
  2. Most Lycomings are actually factory approved to use an automotive fuel specification - see LYC SI 1070Z. The O-320-D is one of them. However........ the required specification of the fuel is ASTM D4814, or EN228. The kicker here is, our fuels here in OZ aren't made to that spec, as far as I can see. Probably the same stuff in reality, but it has to be to that exact spec to use it. Those, and those only, are the ones Lycoming approves. Close enough aint close enough. Then, the aircraft manufacturer has a say in the matter also. Even in USA, obtaining that exact spec fuel would be rather difficult in reality. 93AKI gas sold at the pump could be any sort of slop, you just don't know. US gas pumps have all the different blends coming out of the one same hose and nozzle too. Interesting topic.
  3. Yes, 17 disgusting and unnecessary threats in Aust Part 149: "A person commits an offence of strict liability if....." 37% of the 46 regulations have these threats, which in themselves aren't even regulations, they are just statements/threats.
  4. Part 149 New Zealand - 18 regulations. Part 149 Australia - 46 regulations, plus Manual of Standards not yet in existence which will have many more rules. Part 149 USA - no such thing.
  5. There were about four or five major university displays at Oshkosh, promoting their US aviation courses, both pilotting I guess, and maintenance careers. FAA says: You must get 18 months of practical experience with either power plants or airframes, or 30 months of practical experience working on both at the same time. As an alternative to this experience requirement, you can graduate from an FAA-Approved Aviation Maintenance Technician School. Look on the FAA website, there are over a hundred colleges where you can do your Airframe & Powerplant training. So two pathways exist to getting a basic licence to start your career. In the USA. But here?
  6. Nope. Rejoin the path at Ripon and try again, unless the Fisk controller tells everyone otherwise. It’s a Listen only route, no talking. You fly the entire route to touchdown and parking, listening only, no talking. There are proper procedures in place, much of which were ignored in my half hour visit. Talked to some guys today who took 4 goes to actually get in, about two hours in the air after launching from fon du lac, about 20 mins away.
  7. Watching at the FISK arrival point yesterday afternoon Sunday here at 4pm was 142% N.U.T.S. Most aircraft were not following the prescribed procedure, coming in hot at up to 4 wide, with bugger all spacing, or both, many got turned back to Ripon, many ignored the controller and just kept going. Controller was calling for one mile spacing, lucky if she got a quarter mile out of them. There were so many aircraft, it was nuts. So many, due to poor weather for VFR in the days before, and til after lunch Sunday. And fantastic to see in person. Many peeps there with their chairs on the lawn watching and listening. What a hoot. And the noise, man..... Even Mrs 440032 was gob smacked by the sight of endless stream of tightly packed planes. GYSOT!! NO FENCES, not even on the Airshow crowd line, and everybody managed to stay safe and happy.
  8. Google up this type of thing... Kincrome Digital Torque Adaptor
  9. The as-per-the plans three bolt tailplane attachment has done the job for well over fifty years Rudi, and thousands of flight hours, and as it was all designed by a qualified aeronautical engineer, don't go messing with it. If it aint broke, don't fix it.
  10. Just how much can a Koala Bear?
  11. Rudi, there is a worldwide Corby Starlet group on yahoogroups you might like to join. I think you have to sign up to yahoogroups (generally) before being able to join any group on yahoogroups. Where are you located Rudi?
  12. Careful with the Full River batteries - they are not necessarily like-for-like with Oddysey. I bought the equivalent for my aircraft, and while it's essentially the same battery, the positive and negative terminals were opposite to my installation, so I couldn't use it. Wasn't going to rewire everything just for that.
  13. Jab twin was 1100cc, in 2006, long after the 1600 engine era. Similarly, the Agusta flat twin aero engine in 1966 vibrated to billeo too.
  14. Pity the Jabiru 1100cc twin didn't happen beyond the prototype. I don't think it ever flew, certainly didn't in the aircraft it was specially made for.
  15. How about some congratulations for JG3 for heading back home rather than press on when a significant part of the flight preparation and plan went down the gurgler. Good decision JG:score 010:. Presson-itis has not gone well for a lot of people. There's always tomorrow to try again.
  16. Getting back to the original question of battery: Yes, readily available. That and many more. Australian Rechargeable Lithium Battery & Lead Acid Batteries
  17. Curiosity got the better of me, I went back in to my A20 to see if I could find that thing. There it was, just inside the back cover, not at all buried deep in the guts of the radio like the button cell is. I have no idea how you even got it out, and you are right, the part number spec is not visible, I was sorta hoping I might be able to see what it was for you. Nope!
  18. I did say the button cell was buried deep in the guts and tricky to get to! CR2032 size cell it was, maybe not that exact number, but that size - ten cent piece but thicker. It's there, and clearly not meant to be a user replace item (being buried so deep and spot welded in - not soldered). Replacing the battery fixed my squelchlessness, I have no idea why, but it did. The radio was useless so I had nothing to lose by taking it apart bit by bit and keep on going til I found that battery. Radio was probably 20 years old before that battery died.
  19. Shouldn't have to put up with this crepe..................
  20. I re-batteried my A20 years ago using ten individual nicad cells bought and wired up into the original battery case. Quite easy really. In the A20 there is also a button cell backup battery buried deep in the guts, spot welded in place, very tricky to get to, but possible. I fitted a new button cell wired in and moved to a more convenient location. When backup battery expired, my squelch stopped squelching. The new battery fixed that.
  21. Benawen, ASIC has got nothing to do with CASA, it's not their baby. Expensive? Yes. useless? Yes. CASA's? No.
  22. Jodel Robin DR400? Gotta be close.....
  23. SAAA course is not 1500. Have you attended it Jim?
