  1. One of my cars requires 95 min fuel. If I run 91, it does a certain thing that I can feel happening at low revs. I filled up with Shell 98 in Albury the other week, and almost right away it was running like on 91. I genuinely believe I got 91 fuel. It was not a main street station. I normally run Caltex Vortex 95 in it, exclusively. I've been running my Jab 2200 on the same Caltex 95 for many months as a trial - no operational difference to Avgas. But I think I'll be going back to Avgas.
  2. How is it RAAus aircraft are being used for other than recreational training purposes? (training aspiring professional pilots from the get go)
  3. Years ago I heard a tale about a guy who had Mr Sheen'd his Cessna - the whole thing. Looks fabulous. It got so charged with static electricity it played havoc with all the avionics. Plane had to be deguassed (demagnetised).
  4. No transponder required in Class D tower CTA..... so says AIP, eg Albury, Mooorabbbbin... numerous others.
  5. Rollason Beta G-BADC.
  6. Yes, indeed it was about AF, the Senator Rex Patrick(?) motion to disallow (to not approve) the CASA instruction to AF was indeed clubbed to death. Rex had a go.
  7. Good weekend. Thursday a little windy and dusty. Friday nice. Sat rather windy and dusty, with lots of willy-willy's going through, even saw a huge dust tornado out to the north. Spare a though for the rural farmers and communities - I saw zero crops even planted on the drive there and back. Just dirt, dirt, and more dirt. And some dirt. Brought a lot back on my car.
  8. Quick tip: If any of the kits have the molded plastic fuel tanks, check for plastic debris inside - from where fuel outlets might have been drilled out. Friend of mine found a fair bit in his S7S tanks - after he'd been flying a while. (Blocked line) Lucky for him he told me about it just before he was going stick a vacuum cleaner hose in the tank after draining the fuel . NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Another friend did that to a Pontiac Parisienne tank years ago. Blew the vacuum cleaner clear across the garage and smashed into a million bits. And he was a newly qualified electrician. Guess he missed the "Petrol fumes and electricity DO mix well" class. He waddled a bit too, after his mother "tore him a new one" for destroying her vacuum cleaner. So check for debris in new tanks before use. You can be happy if find none, and delighted if you find some. Either way, you will know it will be AOK in the end.
  9. What, no Ferris Wheels in Italy??? (Hell, here I come....)
  10. That's revolting Peter. (it's on now, let's go!)
  11. Oshkosh 2018, B29 and two (I think it was two?) B17's doing laps of the campground at about 500 feet on Friday evening. Cooooooool.
  12. I gather then that you didn't build your Spitfire? You can still do your oil changes and a whole lot more under CASA Schedule 8 pilot permitted maintenance. For me, my CASA medical cost is way wayyyyy cheaper than two years of membership and aircraft registration, so it's VH for me.
  13. Out of interest, what would be the main attractions for you K5054 of doing so, if you could? 1. No medical required. (tick). 2. 3. etc
  14. ORATEX http://www.wheelerswings.com.au/ in Melbourne - Brian Gooden. Building a beautiful Wooden Dakota Hawk right now.
  15. Yes, and the Australian one will be even better differences! Why do we have to re-invent the wheel....
  16. Confirmed that CASA Aircraft Register is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy behind in updating their VH register records shown online. I know of a transfer that took place months ago that has not shown up yet. Yes, they confirmed it was received, so nothing they can do about it.
  17. Talk of Sport Pilot Licence may be confusing to some new readers. There is no such thing, it doesn't exist. Authors are most likely referring to the RAAus Recreational Pilot Certificate - RPC, which is different to the CASA issued Recreational Pilot Licence - RPL used for VH registered aircraft.
  18. One-off Jabiru 1100 twin 40hp was running at Wagga in 2006. It never flew in the airframe that it was fitted to. (Shook like an angry mother!)
  19. Falco. Next.......
  20. Yes, Kestrel was at Narromine. Said old bloke would have been Peter Hodgens. Usually Lancair IV-P's it into Narromine.
  21. Meanwhile - skip to about 43:30 for John's OAM presentation today in Sydney. https://livestream.com/BLive/InvestitureCeremonySeptember2019/videos/196072148
  22. Try this one aerosexuals:
  23. You need to look at the Australian LSA rules TASMAG. US is a bit different, as is their generic use of "LSA" which can confuse things greatly here. If it's just a kit plane, and I think it is, not an LSA or E-LSA by Australian definition, then you could go RAAus or VH. VH if you want to do aerobatics. What if any licence do you currently have? RA, PPL, or both, or none? That will influence your direction quite a bit.
  24. Successfully nominated by a NSW Starlet owner, of course!
