Specialist police were helicoptered into a remote campsite during a dramatic arrest of a man wanted over the disappearance of two campers in Victoria's rugged high country.

Police, on Tuesday afternoon, confirmed a 55-year-old Caroline Springs man was arrested at a campsite in Arbuckle Junction on Monday night.

He remains in custody.

Channel 7 News reported that the man is a Jetstar pilot.

That campsite is 60 kilometres south of Wonnangatte Valley where Carol Clay,73, and Russell Hill, 74, went missing 20 months ago.

The pair were last heard from on March 20, 2020, while camping in the area in the Victorian Alps.

The DAME has the job of deciding whether the licence holder has mental Issues. Others observing "questionable" behaviour might be included in unsafe and threat to Aviation safety aspects and a duty to report.  Many people in all sorts of jobs could become sufferers from a mental illness/depression etc. Over the years I've seen a few "crack' and drop out, and there's plenty with alcohol issues. Nev.

57 minutes ago, Bruce Tuncks said:

Personally, I was surprised that he was an airline pilot cos I sort of assumed that they had to be basically sane.

Well he did fly for JetStar...And if you believe the commentary on Pprune, that's after leaving Qantas.

For those looking for the "other" thread, Google currently has a cached version available HERE. No idea how long it'll stay live for.

I can't wait for the more salacious details of this blokes history to come out. Like, he not only worked for Jetstar, but he was an obsessive gun-fondler as well! I'm sure the media and internet keyboard sleuths will make up the missing sections of the story, as they go!

I know you ae all enjoying this BUT what has his occupation got to do with anything in this matter? Further he has not been convicted of the possible crime. Possible because no bodied have been found or evince of an actual crime other than a burnt camp site. Could have been a murder suicide/suicide pact or as you are all alluding, third part involvement. My guess  - no aviation connection here.

The link to the pprune thread is below. Now that Greg Lynn has been charged with two murders, the subject is sub judice, so better to leave things to play out in the courts.

You can be assured the police have a very substantial amount of evidence against him, that will all be revealed in the fullness of time.

The blokes lawyer will seize on the link you provided and use it as evidence that his client can’t get a fair trial in Victoria. Please remove the link. Now that he has been charged the matter is now sub ju dice as you have pointed out.

The link is freely available via a Google search using the pilots name and pprune as search words. I can't remove the link, it can no longer be edited.

The evidence the police have gathered over the last nearly 18mths will almost certainly overwhelm his alibis and lawyers arguments.

Victoria Police are obviously extremely confident that they have a good case, and their investigative work has been outstanding.

The presiding judge will advise any jury to ignore anything they've read or seen on the internet, and to simply deal with the facts as presented.

And if he tries to get clever and demand a trial by judge alone, the judge selected will automatically ignore anything he's read or seen on the media or internet, and deal only with the facts before him.

The fact that he was a Jetstar pilot has been public knowledge (press, TV) since he was arrested. That he was stood down has been public knowledge for 2 - 3 days.
